Renting snorkeling equipment on St. John (Trunk or Cinnamon Bay)

My girlfriend and I are planning on conducting our own private snorkeling on St. John and probably hitting both Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay. I was wondering a couple things:

 

1. How much does it cost to rent snorkel gear at one of these beaches?

 

2. Do they charge a flat day rate or by the hour?

 

3. Is it possible to walk (if in good shape) from Trunk Bay to Cinnamon Bay or is a taxi ride necessary?

 

4. Can you rent equipment at one beach and then use it at the other as well (if there is an all day flat rate), as long as it is returned to the original shop?

2 years ago it was $12 for the day. they have showers and lockers, and some of the most incredible snorkeling, but can be busy. It is not cheap getting there either, taxi, boat, and taxi
