? about Nassau beaches

We usually go to Blue Lagoon or the casino in Nassau, so I've never needed this info before.

We are taking my 8 year old grandson on the Celebration in a few weeks and are trying to decide what to do in Nassau. We originally wanted to go to Blue Lagoon, so the adults could snorkel (not sure the 8 yo would like snorkeling) and my DGS could play on the beach. Now I find out that Blue Lagoon is closed.

Are there any beaches that provide snorkeling and good beach area for the kids? I really like the beaches in Cozumel, with the beach toys and such, are there any beaches like that in Nassau?

Any and all help appreciated.

My husband and I are going on a cruise to Nassau in February and we looked into Sea Island Adventures and they are moving their day trip to Blackbeards Cay. Not sure about any of the details as to when they are moving but they are no longer doing trips to Rose Island. It was sold or something.

Check the Robinson Crusoe tour. They still may be going to Rose Island..

And Yes, a large portion of Rose Island was sold, and the Ritz Carlton will be ruining .. I mean building there.

In the meantime, the women who owned part of the island has sold and moved her tour to another part of the island. Check it out.

Thanks for the link. The excursion sounds great and exactly what I would like to do, however, we are going to be in Nassau on Tuesday and the Robinson Crusoe tour is not offered on that day.

Any other ideas? I can't believe that there isn't a beach in Nassau that would offer snorkeling and fun beach time :(

Thanks for the update everyone. I'm really sorry to hear Rose Island will be ruined, errr...I mean built on. It is such a pristine little place.

Shoretrips offers a beach, snorkel trip on Tues. It seems that it's going to Rose Island.

The links for shoretrips is the Sea Island Adventures.. apparently they haven't updated their websites.

As for snorkeling in Nassau.. the reason you don't find good snorkeling tours from the beach is that the area has been overuused and the reefs are depleted from too many boats, jetskis, suntan lotions etc.

Any decent snorkleing has to be done by tours to reefs or sea gardens.

Flying Cloud, Seahorse and Barefoot cuirse all have sailing/snorkeling tours that are quite easy going and enjoyable. Stuart Cove has a fun adventure including wrecks and sharks. Bahamas Divers goes to a great little reef off of Sandy Cay. There's plenty to choose from, but they are not Beach tours.

With the millions of people using Nassau beaches and a birage of hurricanes each year.. you really can't expect to find a healthy reef at the shoreline.

Thanks again for your information. I found a link/website for the Flying Cloud Catamaran trip, which seems like it might fit the bill. I was going to ask if anyone has any experience with them. They seem to offer everything I am looking for and they were very quick to respond, so I think I will go with them, unless anyone has any adverse experience with them.
