trarach Posted June 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2004 We have a car rented in Marseille and plan to do Arles, Les Baux, St. Remy etc. My wife is concerned that shops and sights will be closed because it will be Sunday. Appreciate any feedback as to how this will impact our day. We will be on the Splendour.
Aussie Gal Posted June 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Trarach, Being a Sunday most shops will be closed. The French do observe the Sabbath and usually the only places open are the restaurants and places to eat. You will be able to see the ruins etc. but as far as shopping is concerned, that will be out. We arrived in Aix en Provence on a Sunday and wondered around, very litte was open. Next day the town was alive and buzzing with all the shops open. We got a completely different view of Aix and really enjoyed our time there. Jennie. The next cruise is always the best! 3RD OCTOBER, 2004 PRINSENDAM
trarach Posted June 6, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Jennie: Thanks for the info, it's very helpful. The wife would rather have stores open but now I get more time to see the sights. Regards, Pam & Hal
4 cruisers Posted June 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 6, 2004 trarach, when will you be on the Splendour? Where do you pick up your car and if you don't mind my asking, how much was it? Thanks! ...until our August 28, 2004 Splendour of the Seas
trarach Posted June 6, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Hi: We will be on the June 12 cruise and in Marseille on the 13th. Got a very good deal from Argus ( www.argusrentals.com ) Pickup is at the Train station about 1/2 mile from the dock. Rental charge was about $85 dollars for compact with automatic and AC. Very hard to find anything with a automatic. This was a great find. We are open to share if you or anybody else is interested.
