Self-Assist at Port Everglades?

Going on the Carnival Liberty on 10/21/07, once you get off the ship, how difficult is it to carry your luggage to get to the taxi area? I don't remember much about port everglades and appreciate any information or some of the experiences you all have had.

 

Also, generally, how long does carnival give for self-assist and is it better to wait awhile and exit the ship near the end of the time allotted?
