jgoodall Posted December 30, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2006 Does anybody know how they handle the audience participation stuff? For example... do people throw rice, toast TP? Do they have anyone from the staff there to help "get the crowd going" with appropriate responses? I can't imagine watching it like a regular movie. Now if I can just remember all the stuff we used to say......
kerrydee Posted December 30, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2006 we went to the RHPS on the crown. my son (aged 39) is an avid rocky horror participant since college. there were not that many people there and no staff at all. (they had it the same night as the island deck party). my son yelled the lines but he was the only one and the rest of the audience didn't seem to understand what was going on. Christapie Posted December 31, 2006 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2006 On the CB all was just like a regular movie. There were a few cheers at certain parts. They showed the flick at 12:30 AM. Not a crowded audience in the least. Just plain lots of fun while the ship is roaring over the ocean.
sweetair Posted December 31, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2006 oh you get very strange looks and glaring stares if you yell out the lines!(i think this amused us more than the movie..watching peoples reactions!!!) We still had fun! most hadn't a clue what was going on... and it wasn't very crowded. Some of my friends had NEVER seen it before<shocking> :D so i brought a few props to surprise them...easy stuff...a few patters(to be used instead of newspapers)...a water gun...toilet paper. some of the staff werre even cracking up laughing from us...they must SEE IT ALL the time! get up...LETS DO THE TIMEWARP AGAAAAAAAIN!!! *sweet*
Sunnystone Posted December 31, 2006 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2006 We went to the RHPS on the Crown in September. It was very crowded but little to no audience participation. I would agree with the other posters in that many in the audience seemed very confused about the whole experience (too young/too old). My husband and I (late 30's) really enjoyed it though! Spikesgirl Posted December 31, 2006 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2006 Sigh, no audience participation? That would be like watching it in your living room. Audience participation is what makes that movie (Get a piece of the rock, Janet!) Guess if it's offered when we're on board, we'll have to show them how it's done (sans rice, of course) Nopw, excuse me, I suddenly feel the urge for another slice of Meatloaf Charlie

sandytoesrose Posted December 31, 2006 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2006 I've never seen the movie with audience participation and am looking forward to it - I'll bring a squirt gun!
nannyny Posted January 9, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 9, 2007 someone stop the insanity:D - gosh, we got pics to prove "audience participation", as clueless as I was. Sweet* made the best, you guys should bring props, it made for an eventful night even if I couldn't finish the movie:eek:
jakzak Posted January 9, 2007 #10 Share Posted January 9, 2007 I have seen the flick a few times but, have never seen it in a movie theatre. Can you tell me what props to bring and how to use them to get the most out of the experience. We will be on the Crown in July and look forward to making a total A-- of myself. Thanks
Twelvevman Posted January 9, 2007 #11 Share Posted January 9, 2007 Here is all the info you will need on how to participate. I do reccomend seeing it in a regular theater to get the full effect. http://www.rockyhorror.com/participation/
tequilasunrise Posted January 10, 2007 #12 Share Posted January 10, 2007 It sounds like a lot of fun...being in my early 40's I was just the right age for this when it played more often in the theatres and as a college student it was great fun. But, to play it on the ship---I do think they should expect audience participation (for years, that's been the point!), and warn people in the patter. I would really like to do this on the ocean, but as the audience comments I'd think would generally get a hard R rating, I wouldn't want to see an unsuspecting person bring a child to it! LETS DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN
waterbound Posted January 10, 2007 #13 Share Posted January 10, 2007 This is too funny.. Do they do this on all Princess cruises or just certain ones?? We will be on Grand next weekend and if they do this I would love to bring some props.. This would be hilarious!
Fuzzyape Posted January 10, 2007 #14 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Water, not sure, I believe the CB is showing the film, not sure of other ships though :)
joyride Posted January 10, 2007 #15 Share Posted January 10, 2007 I had no idea that Princess plays RHPS on MUTTS. We are going on the Crown in April, I hope they play it on our cruise! My DH and I went to see RHPS on our very first date (in 1982) and I knew nothing about it - as he sang the lyrics to me and threw toast at me and squirted me with a water gun... Then a couple days later I got a card in the mail with Rocky & Janet on the front and inside it said "toucha toucha toucha touch me, I wanna be....etc." Well, that just won my heart! This year is our 25th Wedding Anniversary which we will celebrate in August on the TP - but watching Rocky Horror on the Crown will be awesome if it happens to play. We will definitely be out there doing the timewarp - and it won't matter if the other PAXs just don't get it!! :) Woo Hoo!
Coolmama_1 Posted January 10, 2007 #16 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Oh how funny! In 1978, I managed a restaurant and my servers would scramble to finish in time to make it to RHPS! 20 years later, DD was going and "performing on stage" as Janet every Friday night! I am sure she will want to cruise with us and relive her Janet days!:D
Spikesgirl Posted January 10, 2007 #17 Share Posted January 10, 2007 Wow, a first date at RHPS and you're still together. You should drop Richard O'Brien a note. That does us even one better (we met at a Star Trek club - 30 years ago). Absolutely so and have a great time. The neat thing about Rocky is that you see something different every time, no matter how often you've seen it. Just an aside, did you know that Susan S ended up with pneumonia because the castle was unheated. Bet she wouldn't do that now! Have an incredible cruise and Rock(y) on! Charlie...another slice, anyone?
ladysheri Posted January 11, 2007 #18 Share Posted January 11, 2007 My DH and I went to see RHPS on our very first date (in 1982) and I knew nothing about it - as he sang the lyrics to me and threw toast at me and squirted me with a water gun... Then a couple days later I got a card in the mail with Rocky & Janet on the front and inside it said "toucha toucha toucha touch me, I wanna be....etc." Well, that just won my heart! Holy Cow! I thought I was the only person in the world who's first date was RHPS. My DH "escorted" me to RHPS on our first date in 1986....I too had NO idea what to expect (and a preacher's daughter to boot!). DH even played a small part up front while I sat wide-eyed in the audience. The next night he called and invited me for a walk in a local park...quite a different ambience to that evening. Maybe Richard O'Brien should start a club....first daters! :D
jgoodall Posted January 16, 2007 Author #19 Share Posted January 16, 2007 It seems on Carnival they actually lead the audience participation using staff members. If you are interested in getting the audience participation aspect rolling on your particular Princess sailing I suggest you check with your "roll call". Our roll call is going to treat RHPS almost like a meet and greet, there is ton of interest. We are going to have a blast, and I don't have to worry that I will be the only one who is screaming at the screen. Now, where do I send my resume to Princess? For a small fee, I would be more than willing to lead RHPS audience partipation or train present crew to handle it. :D
Raceroc Posted January 16, 2007 #20 Share Posted January 16, 2007 On CB in November we had a small crowd (12-14) But most participated in some way. We made toast earlier in the day. Other stuff we brought from home. Squirt guns are a must....Let the TP FLY!!! ENJOY!!
crusinpsychRN Posted January 16, 2007 #21 Share Posted January 16, 2007 What is MUTTS? Best time was taking a bunch of "virgin" psychiatrists and social workers on Halloween at midnight in Coconut Grove! One of the docs was a dead ringer for Tim Curry! goldens4ever Posted January 20, 2007 #22 Share Posted January 20, 2007 I've cruised with Princess for years and never heard of this before!!! We are excited to get involved. My first experience in 1978 was eye opener and that led to sharing with all my friends...we all like to warp... Hey Twelve Volt Man....my fav. JB song of all time...just got a new license plate....2much2see...am working on a collection.... Anyone on the 3/31 Crown cruise....let's (get together) do the time warp again!!!!!:D See you there! SusieQusie Posted January 20, 2007 #23 Share Posted January 20, 2007 I've read the entire thread and can't quite figure out the details. Do they show RHPS on ALL Princess Ships with MUTS? We are on the Crown in August and would love to experience this with my teens - who have never seen it!!!
SusieQusie Posted January 22, 2007 #24 Share Posted January 22, 2007 With our little board "sickness" yesterday, this post got pushed to page 2. I'm still curious: Do they show the RHPS on the Crown on all sailings (or on any for that matter). Is there a way to find out what is "playing" on any particular future cruise date/itinerary? Thanks! imsulin Posted January 22, 2007 #25 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Well, dammit, Janet! On the CB in Sept. 2005, we all had to set our alarms to get up to to see the 12:30 a.m. viewing of RHPS! I brought soggy toast from my room order breakfast, and a squirt bottle. They actually had popcorn, and there were as many staff as guests. It was a blast, especially when staff and guests did the Time Warp (just a jump to the left - and a step to the riiiggghhhttt...) It was great!
