Is there an airport fee when you depart from Rio?

I don't remember paying anything.

 

Just a head's up. The airport in Rio is kinda nasty. It is hot and dirty with few chairs to sit on, etc. And the bathrooms on the ground floor are disgusting.

 

There is an upstairs area that you may want to go to after you get checked in but before you go through security to your gate. Upstairs there are better bathrooms, some shops, a small "food court" and a restaurant that serves fairly decent meals. We had our dinner there and relaxed with a glass of wine before going through security to the gates. It was very, very busy and we had to stand around for 4 hours (our flight was delayed). There were no seats available and the floor was too dirty to sit on. Some of the older passengers were close to collapsing by midnight. And it was brutally hot and humid with no air conditioning.

A lightweight backpacking tripod seat might provide a solution here if stuck standing around a dirty, hot, humid airport?
