How much tipping cash to bring?

I bring about $50 in $1s, $5s and $10s and about another $150 in $50s. You can always get change at the Pursar's Desk -- no need to fill your wallet. How much you would bring would depend on whether you check your bags curbside at the airport, how much your taxi ride is, etc.

BTW, what is "chair rentals"? Wheelchair? Because if you require wheelchair assistance for boarding or disembarkation, you'll need more cash since the porters can't board the ship so you'll tip them; then, a ship's staff will take the wheelchair and board the ship and take you to your cabin, and that's another tip.

I meant beach chair/hammock rentals. ;) Sorry

When I saw this thread earlier today, I thought that might be what you were talking about ;) .

Depending on where you're traveling, beach lounger rentals can be from $3-7 per chair and a little more if you want an umbrella. Take plenty of singles and fives.

Bon Voyage!

Chris

We used to bring a lot of small bills but it was a little clumsy trying to carry that many small bills in a wallet or purse so we bring just enough for the trip to the ship then use the purser's desk to get change for our larger bills. We'll get enough ones for the cabin drawer to tip room service then stop by the purser's desk before leaving the ship at each port to get smaller bills for taxis, beach chairs, etc..

I used to bring over $100.00 in small bills (50 x $1.00, 10 x $5.00) but I have learned not to over do it. I like bringing $2.00 bills now. (I tried the Susan B. Anthony dollars but the weight of the coins made that a one time option! LOL! I love the reaction from the room service staff when I give them a $2.00 (or 2 $2.00 bills) for bringing our morning coffee. I also don't have to take as many bills that way.;) Once on board, as I need to 'break' any larger bills, I do so at the Purser's Desk or in the Casino.

I have also found that when in ports, I keep only a few dollars or a couple of $2.00 bills in my pocket. When looking to barter with the locals on an item, I have had them lower their prices to get one of the $2.00 bills!

I am a strong believer in Cash in the Pocket, personal choice. I would take 50- 100 in 1s, 5, and 10s for porters, etc. Then the rest ($$$)in larger bills. Depends on if you use credit on shore for purchases, lunch, etc. If you gamble, then add $ accordingly. I hate to give Princess their 3% on credit card cash and casino money.

And they probably loved you in the bank for taking them off their hands! As a former banker, I can tell you no one wanted those $2.00 bills - I was constantly taking them from customers and shipping them to the Fed!

But what a great idea - never thought of it and it sure gets rid of a lot of bulk. I may do the same thing on our Sept. cruise.
