brideoct12 Posted May 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2004 We will only be at each place for about 8 hours. What are "must sees" that we should not miss?
daWoods Posted May 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2004 What time of year will you be there? In Halifax, you should see the Citadel, and a visit to Peggy's Cove is possible in that time. In Saint John, a visit to the Fundy Trail and St. Martins is pretty, or if you're more adventuresome, the jet boat ride in Reversing Falls. paminohio Posted May 3, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2004 I'd also like to know! We'll be in Halifax mid-May. We plan on renting a car and exploring ourselves...is that a good idea? daWoods Posted May 3, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Then the advice stands. Check out the websites for other ideas. Island Princess Feb. 2004 Grand Princess Feb. 2002 Norwegian Sky Feb. 2001
daWoods Posted May 3, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Paminohio..It would almost always be my choice. If you do, you have total control over your time and where you go. Canadian highways are not always what you're used to in the States, but at that time of year you shouldn't run into much tourist traffic. Get a good map!! Joy2Day Posted May 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 5, 2004 We rented a car and drove to Peggy's Cove last October. Hertz -- and maybe Enterprise -- had a small counter right at the pier. Hertz then shuttled us down to the Casino Nova Scotia Hotel to pick up the car. Coming back from Peggy's Cove, we stopped at a small place called Shaw's Landing for the BEST fish and chips and scrumptious desserts. We were in Halifax on Canadian Thanksgiving, so much of the shopping etc on the boardwalk and at Historic Properties was closed. At St. John, we took a private tour that took us around St. John and then to St. Martin. They dropped some of us at the City Market and the rest at the pier. We then shopped our way back to the ship. bbqbears Posted May 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Hi Joy2Day, do you possibly have the name of the tour company for St. John? We will be there in October. Thanks, Kathy Until we sail on the Grand Princess
tlynnie Posted May 5, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I second the question bbqbears asked. I have info from Freedom Tours for a 5 hour trip (reversing Falls, St. Martins, Fundy trail Reversing Falls, City Market), and am very interested in booking with them. Also waiting to hear from them on what kind of transportation they use. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Too many days since the Legend (10/03) Looking forward to Victory...6/04!!! Joy2Day Posted May 11, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 11, 2004 bbqbears & tlynnie, I think we went through Freedom Tours. There were 4 of us, plus a tour guide and driver in a minivan. We were in Saint John on a Sunday. About half of the stalls in the City Market were open. Pepper42960 Posted May 17, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 17, 2004 How intense is the jet boat ride ~ we'll have five teenagers on it and I'm a little concerned whether it might prove overwhelming for the younger teens? Do you recommend booking it on your own so you can hit high tides or do you think I'm better off sticking with the Royal Caribbean excursion? thanks so much
