Jewel: Deck 7 E1 or Deck 9 D1

Recommended Posts

We have two cabins on hold for a cruise soon on Jewel O/S and need to choose between a starboard E1 on deck 7 (huge balcony) and a port D1 on deck 9 (bigger stateroom, smaller balcony).

Any advice from folks experienced with Radiance-class ships?

Anyone have pix of the large deck 7 (forward) E1 balcony, or any E1 cabin?

It's just the two of us, but we make good use of our staterooms and balconies and enjoy nice space. Usually book a JS, but they're sold out on this sailing. Also, net cost is not very different, after TA's OBC for the D1.

We're Platimum with RCCL, but all those cruises have been Voyager class. Really looking forward to sailing the Jewel.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Anne

we had staterooms 9008 & 9009 on the jewel Thanksgiving week, we really liked the location. The forward elevators never seemed very crowded, except after an evening show. Also we could watch the captain when docking the ship from our balcony on the overhang. It was a very quiet location since there were not that many cabins down the hall and there was no place else to go. We spent a lot of time in the solarium which was very close too. I hope this helps and you have a great time on the jewel, it's a beautiful ship and crew was one of the friendlist yet.

I haven't been on a radiance class ship yet, I will be in two weeks, in an aft D1. I'm looking forward to the larger balcony but would have been just as satisfied with and E1 because the difference in size is not that big. It's the difference between a love seat sofa and a full size sofa. Personally I would like the bigger balcony.;)

Enjoy your cruise!

We are booked in cabin 7108 On Jewel 1/27/2007, I'll let you know how it is!

Too late -- you'll be boarding as we disembark. This is a last-minute booking for us.

Have a great crusie -- that looks like one heckuva cabin!!

Well, a D1 is bigger than an E1 so since you are used to sailing in a JS, I would take the D1.

Which sailing are you booking?

1/21-27. Nothing like a last-minute booking! :D

The E1's on deck 7 have large balconies -- 64 sq. ft., compared to 41 for the D1 balcony. So total square footage is nearly the same for our two cabin choices -- but the E1 has more outside; the D1 has more inside.

I'va also heard that these deck 7 E1 balconies, though larger, are less private. Can anyone confirm that? I wonder if they also get more sun?

The balconies stick out so over the life boat covers. Have you ever seen Samantha Brown's Brilliance of the Seas cruise on the Travel Channel? She was in a deck 7 balcony. Half your balcony will be visible to your neighbors and above.

I'd choose based on what is above, below, to each side, and across the passageway! If either of the cabins has "white space" shown on the deck plans, stairs, elevators, crew doors/workrooms, or has public spaces above or below, I'd avoid that one.

On my first cruise, I had a D1 (9636) on Radiance last year which turned out to be too near the crew area where they bring up the luggage and across from a door that banged open and shut at all hours. It was still a great cruise, but now I know why it was still available at the last minute when I booked! Some posters have said the glare from the lifeboat covers on Deck 6 can be annoying in Deck 7 cabins, but others say being lower can help in rough water. If one cabin is more mid-ships, that could be better, too. Only half-joking, some posters like to be two decks closer to the Dining rooms, Seaview Cafe, entertainment, casino, pool, debarkation, etc.--all of which works both ways, of course. Take your pick.

DONT TELL EM BOUT THE SEAVIEW CAFE!!! (it's a secret...:D ) been on both deck 7 and 9 outside on the Jewel and truth be told.. they were both great! i'd just check to see if anyone who's done the intinery would suggest port or starboard for the views during the sailing..

I was in 7108 on the Dec 10 sailing - great cabin. No more hallway noise than normal, extra-deep balcony. You can't be seen by others unless you are right at the railing. Not much of a breeze, but it's not very hot anyway in the winter. We could have gotten a D1 for only $20/pp more, but the location was perfect for us and the cabin was plenty big enough for Mom and me.
