I posted a message, but it didnt go through...

So Im trying this again.

I wanted to thank you all again.

I have decided to take my mother.

I have also decided to book an earlier cruise,so she doesnt have to wait so long.

We will be on the Scotland and Ireland cruise(May 17th)

She is very happy and I am at peace with my decision.

Just wanted to update..

Happy Sailings to everyone!

Donna

Im happy to hear this, I think you are giving her a great gift. I cant wait to hear about it when you get back!

Contact the cruiselines special services department and request a wheelchair on board, if they cannot guarantee one, then rent one if you have to, also be sure to request the airlines have one to take her curbside to her flights and any connections etc.

"Trip insurance" policies cover verying levels of expense for med-evacs, and from Europe the cost of a med-evac can be quite hefty! There is a company out there that is great for med-evacs if that is your only concern at this point; look at www.medjetassist.com

They do not exclude preexisting conditions and have different plans depending on the length of your trip.

Best of luck to you.

OK, this is completely way off topic, but I had to respond to you Kwaj girl. I work for Bechtel and DH and I just put in to go to Kwaj!!! We've heard nothing but good things about that place and we know our kids would thrive there. Just wanted to say Hi.

To the OP, I'm facing something similar: In-laws both in their 80's are going with us in June. Both have health issues (diabetes, pace-maker, knee replacements and the like), but they are both mules and won't listen to anyone. They're going and that's that. We feel it'll be their last hoo-rah so we're going to do everything we can to make it special. It's a tough decision, but it really is your mom's choice. I say go for it.

Donna,

Good for you; if this is what your mom wants and she is an adult; hope it turns out to be the trip of her life time. It sounds like it will be. BTW, Scotland is a wonderful country even if you might have trouble understanding them. LOL!!! Hope everything turns out for both of you.

Enjoy!!!!

just had to post on this one, my dad was a person with heart problems, had strokes, diabetic, the week they had to remove both legs the doctor told us, take him home, enjoy him, if you have 6 months with him you've been blessed. he went home, he was very active before his legs were removed, now he just sat and look so sad, after 2 weeks of this, i went part-time on my job, went down everyday and put him in his wheelchar, took he and my mom out shopping and out to eat, we done this every day of the week except sunday, this day we rested, guess what, after doing this for 7 years he died of kidney faliure, the day before he passed we went out and done our thing, he enjoyed his life up to the last day, the doctor told us i had put the will to live in him, wanda

Wanda, that is a wonderful story. I have seen too many people in nursing homes not even getting visits. You are an angel. I just read a great book "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen, and I know you would enjoy it after reading your story. You won't be able to put it down. Pam

Nitra,

My mother and I are going on a Hawaiian cruise so that she can see a place she has always wanted to see, before she dies. She has terminal cancer and has chosen not to do chemo because she had to watch my father suffer through those treatments for many years before he died. She will be in a wheelchair, and will be in a lot of pain, but is determined to go and have the time of her life. It is my privilege to escort her and make sure she has fun, and has someone to wait on her every need. We will have some challenges getting her onboard the whale watching boat, and on the helicopter ride she insists on, but we WILL do it no matter what! I know from your post that you have decided to go ahead with the trip. My opinion is that you are doing the right thing. God bless you.
