car rentals at Port Bayonne

We will be traveling to Port Bayonne to board the Explorer in July. Does anyone know if there is a car rental agency at the pier? We would like to rent a car, return it and then rent one for the trip home. I have heard that sometimes there is a problem with a substance on your car when you return home to this port that is the reason for the car rental.

There are no car rentals, pay telephones or anything else at Cape Liberty Port in Bayonne, NJ. It's a large warehouse type building and that's all that's there. The nearest thing is a small strip mall about 2-3 miles from the port. I tried to do the car rental in September, but there isn't anything there.

you would have to cab it to EWR airport.

 

 

Otherwise, drive up, stay at an airport hotel....many of them have a park-n-fly rate, then cab it to & from the port. It's about $40 each way per cab.

 

 

I like the Courtyard & Residence Inn Newark/Elizabeth at 13A off the NJ Turnpike near Jersey Gardens outlet mall.
