Nuttycruisegirl Posted April 23, 2008 #2251 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Does anyone happen to know who the piano bar player is right now? If so, was the person good? Thanks! You just missed an AWESOME piano player named Greg Gallello who got off of Conquest on 4/13....I'd love to know who is replacing him if anyone knows. The Piano bar was one of my favorite spots! MDR Cali Cruisers Posted April 23, 2008 #2252 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We stayed at the Hilton on Seawall and loved it. Free parking for the cruise and the shuttles to/from the port were very organized. Drop off and pick up right at terminal door. We had a much better experience than many of the other guests in our party that stayed elsewhere. I will stay there again whenever I am cruising from Galveston. I understand the Hilton is part of the same complex as the San Luis Resort. Did you happen to check it out? Just curious what you thought. A co-worker who used to live in Galveston recommended this hotel. You just missed an AWESOME piano player named Greg Gallello who got off of Conquest on 4/13....I'd love to know who is replacing him if anyone knows. The Piano bar was one of my favorite spots! That's a bummer we're missing Greg. Glad you got to see someone you enjoyed. It is usually one of my favorite spots too. I hope someone tells us who the replacement piano player is and happens to mention how great he or she was on their cruise. :) I also check the piano player thread periodically, so if it gets updated I'll post back on this thread. barbmac Posted April 23, 2008 #2253 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We are staying in room 6252. Has anyone stayed in this room? Any pictures? We were in 6244 last July, it was a great location and very quiet. I would definitely book in that location again
dafuser Posted April 23, 2008 #2254 Share Posted April 23, 2008 I've have several questions ... we will be taking the transfer bus from the airport to galveston ... where does the bus drop you off? I'm asking because we want to pick up a few things at Walgreen's (someone posted it was close by). Will we be able to do this? We are in cabins 6432 & 6436 (upper deck) how noisy is it going to be with the lounges under us and close to the back of the ship - engine noise? Has anyone done the river tubing? I was wondering how long it takes to get there and back since it's not in MoBay. Thanks for the info! We did the Jungle river tubing thing earlier this month. it was ok, nothing special. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the start of the river tubing. There were lots of other people already there standing in line to rent a locker for your stuff you did not want to get wet. The lockers had a $3.00 - $5.00 deposit, I don't remember the exact price. The tubing operators were out of change for people wanting lockers and or food. It was not one of the better organized excursions I have ever been on. The water was muddy due to rains earlier in the week. All the tubes were tied together and pulled along by the guide. We did not see any wild life other then a couple birds. It was a relaxing drift down the river to where you got off the tubes. After we got off the tunes, they loaded us into a truck and drove us up a long bumpy road back to where we began the tubing adventure. There we waited in lines again to get our locker deposit back. We were then brought back to the ship. I think the whole excursion took about 3 hours. I don't mean to sound like it was a horrible experience, it just seemed very unorganized. After seeing the beautiful water in the caribbean, the muddy river and tubes was not what we expected. Personally I would not do this excursion again. The Sea Trek helmet dive in Grand Cayman was the best excursion we ever had. It was great and we intend to do it again when we return in September. You don't need to know how to scuba dive, swim, or anything other then stand up and walk. You can see information on what it's like here: http://www.sea-trek.com/ Both Grand Cayman and Cozumel have the Sea Trek helmet diving excursions. Have a great cruise. barbmac Posted April 23, 2008 #2255 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Barb, I did buy the insurance. I figure better to be safe then sorry~ So you are booked on conquest on the 17th too? Eight of you guys huh? How much fun! It's just going to be me and the DH and this is our first cruise. Well he was in the Navy for 14 years so not really his first time on a big boat but first time on one to relax. lol Well I hope to see you on the boat. Did you book any shore exsursions yet? We've booked Captin Marvin in Caymen and Dune buggy in Coz. Thinking of doing Rose hall in MOJO. Ang I haven't even thought about tours yet. I just got back off the Ecstasy 3 days ago. We had a blast. We will prob. do sting ray city again. In Mobay we just stayed on the ship, the kids had a blast, the Lido deck was almost empty. (117 days to go, but whose counting)
watzonii Posted April 23, 2008 #2256 Share Posted April 23, 2008 That's what I figured out. I even calculated 90 days exactly, and it's right in the middle of the July 6 cruise, so I'd imagine the arrival/departure on July 13th will be the nightmare.Dang it. Does anyone know how long debarkation takes on those days? I don't really mind waiting to embark, but now I'm worried about catching my flight home on July 13. Guess I better start checking into Southwest's rebooking options. :( Debarkation on 4/13 was delayed due to the crew immigration check. We did self assist, used a porter and walked to the Harbor House by 11:30 am and made our 3:00pm flight (IAH) with no problem. We had rented a car and parked it for the week at Harbor House ($20 parking fee). I believe it was almost 9:00 before they started calling decks for the Self Assist. We were on the Upper Deck and were one of the last decks called for Self Assist. At the debarkation talk they said if you had a flight prior to 3:00 you could go to the pursers desk and get a number 1 thru 5 to leave the ship early. I believe they called a couple of decks for self assist, then would call one of the early flight numbers. By the time they got to the upper deck self assist, they had already called the 5 numbers for early flights.
232271 Posted April 23, 2008 #2257 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We are already booked for next year on the new itenerary.. Cant wait.. We have stayed on 7th floor (cant think of the name of that deck) in a balcony cabin and loved it.. We just booked for 3/15 and 7/12 2009!! We are thrilled with the new Ports!:D We have a cabin on Empress/7 for one, and Upper/6 for the other, BUT beware what is below you (promenade/5) on the Upper, it is Casino/Lounges and Bars. Many reviewers complained of noises/vibrations from these places. Try to get over the shops or the main show area at the front of the ship. Texaslandshark Posted April 23, 2008 #2258 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We like to book 1A rooms for us and our teenage kids, we love the cheap price and dont mind the size of the room or the bunks either.I noticed there are two cabins 6224/6227 on the Upper Deck and wanted to know if ANYBODY knows what the empty space is around them? We are about to book Spring Break 2009 and dont want to have some strange noises around us. thanks for your help! p.s we stay in 1207/1211 and it was very very loud with crashing waves, so we are hoping to stay on the higher floor this time. We just came back and were in 6220 which as I recall is next door to 6224. They are balconies on the port side. The odd numbered cabins are on the starboard side. Nothing but hallway on our side. It was quiet, no problems. It was very nice.
Texaslandshark Posted April 23, 2008 #2259 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Question about when the next date is that they do the 90 day immigration check of the crew. Someone on another thread said they just sailed on the Conquest from 4/13 to 4/20, and embarkation was a nightmare because of this. Sooo... going forward from 4/13, does this mean the next crew check is going to be on 7/13? I mentioned it but it must have been someone else that said "nightmare". It just delayed things for maybe an hour and a half when you're sitting in your assigned "zone". They said it was a mandatory 90 day check and didn't say when the next one would take place. Don't cancel your cruise over that.
Texaslandshark Posted April 23, 2008 #2260 Share Posted April 23, 2008 It was my understanding that you couldn't book a future cruise while on the Conquest. Am I wrong? The only way I know of is to go to the internet cafe and go to the Carnival web site and book it. I really don't get that when I could do it from home. If you are asking if they have some desk that sells future cruises..no, they don't. I believe Royal Carribean has on-board future cruise sales wherein you get some on board credit or something. Carnival is probably missing an opportunity to get people who are all excited and would book another on the spot.
sabandmom Posted April 23, 2008 #2261 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Anyone stayed in cabin 6453? Just got assignment and was wondering if any of you had experiences with this cabin. Thanks so much! Ya'll are a wealth of information:)

Carnival used to have a desk on the ship where you could book another cruise while crusing, but, but no longer. RCCL does have this desk where you can make a appointment to schedule another cruise. They will give on board credits if you schedule a cruise while cruising. The price did not seem very special to me, but your mileage may vary. A box of Chocolates Posted April 23, 2008 #2263 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Question about when the next date is that they do the 90 day immigration check of the crew. Sooo... going forward from 4/13, does this mean the next crew check is going to be on 7/13? We were on the 4/6 to 4/13 cruise. I'd read posts on CC that said the 90 day inspection fell on the 6th and I'd worried about having to deal with that getting on the ship. It actually occurred on the 13th when we were getting off the ship. I'd guess there might be a little give or take with the exact date. It did hold up things up for a few hours. People with early flights were allowed to get off the ship first. This was done on the honor system, so that might explain why it took so long for the rest of us. We live within a few hours drive of Galveston and didn't have to rush off. If you don't have to rush, the best advice is to kick back on the lido deck and enjoy the view, lunch and a glass of iced tea or lemonade. It's also a good time to get a few final pictures of your favorite spots on the ship. We spent some of the time sitting in the nice leather sofas by the sushi bar. We drifted to another spot when one of the mommies had a meltdown. :p Patience and a sense of humor makes the wait easier on everyone.
Nuttycruisegirl Posted April 24, 2008 #2264 Share Posted April 24, 2008 The San Luis, Holiday Inn and The Hilton are all right together. The San Luis was beautiful. All three resorts are right together and utilize the same shuttle system. I think any of them would be great!

FuntimesDNM Posted April 26, 2008 #2271 Share Posted April 26, 2008 thank you all I was so worried when I saw that glass above the cabin it looked like they were looking right down on top of it. What Sucked about the Conquest ... we are booked to leave on May 11, 08 does anyone know about buying liquor onboard at the gift shop ... a friend of mine said he bought liquor there and they took it to his suite right away .... I understood from carnival that if you purchase liquor in the store on the ship that they will keep it for you till the end of the cruise. A friend of mine stayed in a penthouse suite (we are booked in one) and he went to the duty free gift shop ....bought several bottles of liquor and cigs and they delivered it to his room right away. Anyone have any idea if this really happens or how to make it happen?

I've never know them to deliver to a cabin unless you order from room service. Are you sure it was purchased at the duty free shop? Very unlikely.
