Mrsg324 Posted October 30, 2009 #3829 Share Posted October 30, 2009 We got the same voicemail message. I'm not too concerned about the traffic on Sunday since the Lonestar Rally will be over, traffic will be leaving there. However, don't forget that time changes on Sunday morning. It will be our first cruise on the Conquest, yet I'll have my first balcony experience next week on the Ecstasy. :)

makaakjak Posted October 30, 2009 #3833 Share Posted October 30, 2009 Hello everyone, my DW, DS 10 years old, and DD 8 years old are going on our first family cruise. We sail out of Galveston on 2/14/10. We are in cabin 8205, any info on this area of the ship would be appreciated. Thanks!
pnjkeith Posted October 30, 2009 #3834 Share Posted October 30, 2009 Which dining room is for anytime dining and which is for the early/late dining? We are confirmed for late, but on our sea days we might want to try anytime. Plus, I would like to attempt (keyword - attempt) to request a table for four for our party. I know this should be done ASAP when boarding. According to deck plans it looks like the Renoir has a lot more 4 seater tables then Monet. So, I am hoping Renoir is not the anytime. You cant switch back and forth between anytime and assigned.

mudpievelour Posted December 9, 2009 #3838 Share Posted December 9, 2009 Has anyone gone on the Eastern Carribean cruise lately? I am looking for ideas for excursions to Nassau,, Freeport and Key West. Any recommendations or things NOT to do? Remember you are still in the US in Key West, so feel free to roam and explore. We took the trolley ride on our own for less than the ship charges and you can get on and off as many times as you wish. After the trolley we hiked (it is farther than it appears on the map) down to Hemingway's and took the tour. $12 for adults, less for children. It was very interesting, especially the six toed cats (yes, I counted the toes). In Freeport we caught a taxi and went to Port Lucaya for shopping. The market area is very clean and the people will NOT chase you down the street, but they will still bargain. There are several good restaurants in this area also. I think the taxi was $10 pp each way. In Nassau we went to the Wyndham hotel on cable beach and bought a day pass. $5 taxi pp each way and $40 for adults. They provide nice beach with pool, chairs and towels, and a buffet lunch. The lunch was very good. The hotel was just refurbished and it has a casino, but it was closed while we were there. You also have use of the Sheraton beach and facilities next door (nice bar and restrooms) and NO vendors going up and down plying their wares. Very relaxing. This was the first cruise that we did not book any excursions through the ship and I loved it. We went when we wanted and returned when we wanted, and did not have to put up with a lot of other people all trying to do the same thing at the same time. I recommend it. I think the taxi was $10 pp each way. Where does the ship drop you off in Freeport? We have been in Freeport many times with our Condo, but never by cruise ship. Once we met some people that had been tendered in from The Big Red Boat, but we understood they got dropped of close to the port. I cannot picture a landing spot that would be a 10pp cab ride away. We have always liked Port Lucaya and feel it would make a nice 1/2 day diversion without the cost of an excursion. There is usually a live band playing and always some good shopping in the shops. Quite a few good restaurants there as well. No one intrudes on you at all, except for the statue and clown people if they are still there. They will chase you if you took their picture and did not leave a tip. That is what they are there for. If you don't want to tip, look but don't snap. Thanks Edited December 9, 2009 by iceshots
ConquestJan17 Posted December 9, 2009 #3840 Share Posted December 9, 2009 Does anyone have any suggestions on the cheapest way to get from Houston Airport to the port in Galveston? Our flight arrives at 11:25am. I am thinking to just book transport through Carnival. At least there may be hope of getting us on board if we are late! I don't think local shuttles are much cheaper, if at all. I think you could rent a car one way, but we won't have time to mess with that. Dropping the car off would create a hassle if you are time constrained. I think the Carnival transportation is the best bet. I know some people have used a Limo and a driver and said it was about $120, but I think that was from Houston Hobby airport, not George Bush. The Carnival shuttle only operates from George Bush, I believe.

constanze1 Posted December 31, 2009 #3843 Share Posted December 31, 2009 I was curious about the teen or tween clubs. I have a son who will be 12 and a daughter who will be 9. Will he have access to teen night club? Also, will he be able to check himself in and out of the club? I can't seem to find specific information on the kids clubs. If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be much appreciated.--Lisa.

crdtrnr Posted January 7, 2010 #3845 Share Posted January 7, 2010 What kind of safe does the Conquest have ? magnetic strip or numered pad? How are the movies on the outdoor screen? gwinel Posted January 7, 2010 #3846 Share Posted January 7, 2010 Our cabin had a safe w/magnetic strip. AND it wanted you to use a card other than the ship card. My credit cards were were in the safe so I used a ship card. Then I was the only one who could open the safe!

Hi Linda, Looks like you sailed the Conquest before and after the refurb. Did you notice a big difference in the condition of the ship? Did you have any kids with you that used the game room? I'm wondering if they've repaired all the broken video games in there! It has been pretty sad our last 2 cruises on the Conquest, but that was before the refurb, so hopefully the game room is better now. Thanks for the recommendations for KW and the Bahamas....we'll probably take your advice and do the same. It's going to be pretty chilly though!!! But who cares!!!! :D katcruiser

My kids love the activities. THe Camp Carnival stuff is morning until about ten then you have to pay a little fee per hour for them to stay after that, but it's not bad. They cannot check themselves in and out at 9 but they can at 12 if you sign off on it. The Circle C activities go from noon to midnight (more appropriate for the age) My son loves it and we only see him at meal times or when we tell him there will be a family activity. The crew on the Conquest is FABULOUS!!!

My credit cards were were in the safe so I used a ship card. Then I was the only one who could open the safe! we always bring an empty gift card or something and hide it in the room where everyone knows where it is. It will work with any card that has a magnetic strip so this was best for us.
suzy1212 Posted January 9, 2010 #3850 Share Posted January 9, 2010 What kind of safe does the Conquest have ? magnetic strip or numered pad? How are the movies on the outdoor screen? I didn't expect to care about the big screen, but I ended up watching a movie (Mall Cop) and a couple of concerts (Bee Gees and Andrew Loyd Webber). I enjoyed it. Is there an adult only - serenity area? No. I'm already wanting to go again!
