I was one of those who posted a "negative" review...In my mind 3 out of 5 is not negative its average. As with KC fan this was not my first cruise and had it been I would have been impressed at the value for the money. But...when you cant sleep well for 7 nights because of the bed and you report it and nothing is done that plays into your attitude. I too have traveled alot and know you have to be flexible, etc.. I have been (not just on a cruise) to Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, Canada, Bahamas,US locations, etc. and know you have to relax and enjoy. I have slept in the hot Mexican nights without A/c and the deserts of Mexico in the winter without heat but was happy. This I was expecting just as I was expecting certain "basics" from Carnival. We did relax and enjoy this time but felt that to be fair with those looking at this ship to report our experience both good and bad. I wouldn't "not recommend" this cruise but personally will not book it again without trying other options. Again I am not approaching this with a negative attitude but just reporting our experience. Maybe ??? Carnival was having a bad week on this ship???? It could be possible that everytime the ship leaves port everything is not perfect and people on this board report their experience based on what happened to them. Maybe being that the ship was full more people are writing reports on this cruise? Who knows but all I gave was a truthful report of what happened to us and thought I reported the good with the bad.

PS...Heather...if you get enough lemons that your always drinking lemonade add a little Rum...DW says that seems to help!!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, rum and lemonade is always good!! I too would be upset if my bed wasn't comfy....but for me, I at least know that I won't have my four sons in my uncomfy carnival bed on this trip, so all is well!! :D I'm sure that they do have off weeks, everything will not always go as planned, I guess those of us that search the boards weekly for reviews of the Conquest because we are either going soon or wish we were, tend to take any negative comments personally, so sorry for jumping the gun!! I just think, as I'm sure many others do that the Conquest is my ship!! I think for me to negative reviews make me worry that we won't have fun or something will go wrong!! It's been 12 years since hubby and I were on vacation together without the kids and man I think we deserve it!!:D Anyway didn't mean to step on toes if I did!

Hi fellow cruisers......does anyone know if the conquest has those electronic holdem tables??

Yes, from what I saw in the casino, that is all they have - the electronic holdem table without a dealer. No actually holdem table with a dealer.

You stated the bed was uncomfortable. Did your cabin have the "new" bedding? We had it last year and we found the beds to be very comfy! Don't get me wrong, if I can't sleep, I am not a happy camper! My review would have reflected it just like yours did. Did your steward not even offer you one of the egg crate things? Hope your next cruise is better!

I dont know if our bedding was "new" or not but everytime we turned on the "Carnival TV" we saw an ad to buy the mattress we were sleeping on (Carnival Comfort Mattress) and at least one night we had a brochure on our bed with the capers offering to sell us that same bed...The steward...I asked him if there was an egg crate or something he could put on the bed and he said sure I can take care of it....I think he may have turned the mattress that night as it felt different but no egg crate...Basically there were 2 beds placed together with a hard divider between them. Each bed sloped away from the other side towards the edge of the bed and was very hard. DW and I usually argue about the bed sloping TOWARD the middle not away from it. The beds we have had on ALL of our previous cruises were great and we slept very good even too much. As a side note our kids were in an inside room and had single beds that could be moved to a double. They slept as singles and said their beds were comfy. Any way I was going to say earlier....our best cruise was on the Holiday during Hurricane Ivan...you could lay on the bed and feel your stomach swaying in the 16' plus swales. I slept like a baby although DW got a little green. We never complained and had a ball. With that being said I was going to give this cruise a 4 star until I waited all morning to debark the ship then waited in line for over 30 minutes before I even saw a cab. Just seems like there were alot of negatives related to sleeping, debarkation and the little things you take for granted. Again all of our port days were great with us having one of the best excursions (not thru carnival) we ever had. I would book this cruise again if it were the only option but am looking to see what else is out there after all the mess.

i guess you might say i had a not so favorable review...but it was ok. it was our first cruise. first off, the whole point of these boards are for everyone to post their opinions..."their" opinions...not yours. so if you don't agree, so be it. i went on our cruise with a complete open mind. i knew all of our options, as far as what we would/could do while on the ship and in ports. we opted to do excursions booked through carnival and LOVED every one we booked. our waitstaff in our dining room was no where near what i had expected after reading other reviews. it did not even measure up to the service i recieve at the local chilis or IHOP. we were very disappointed. after realying my info to fellow cc member, we were asked to join them. then that all changed! had we not changed dinner times and locations, we would still be complaining about how poor the service was. our bed was very comfy. i even mentioned to my dh that it was the most comfy bed i had ever slept on. is that because i was so exhausted every night and a rock would have felt good? or was it because we were at the back of the ship, gently being rocked to sleep every night? (many variables for people's opinions) who knows, but that was my opinion. the ac worked very well in our cabin. but our cabin steward was not the best. was he bad? no, not really, he just wasn't what i expected. only 2 towel animals...after requesting just because i had read on here about everyone's experiences with them. he seem to come when we were trying to get ready for dinner every night. that makes no sense. did i allow that to ruin my trip? NO WAY! did i let the dining room staff ruin it? NO WAY! cruise director? never saw him, didn't care to. did i see any shows? nope, didn't care to. wasted my time and money on bingo, yes. i suppose if i had won, i might not be saying that right? so everyone's opinion is that....their's. and there are plenty of things that can sway your opinion either way. had i not known that most people have towel animals every night, cutely decorated, i would not have expected them right? then i could not be disappointed about something i was not aware of. dh and i wanted to do whatever we wanted and felt like doing. we did everything (except excursions) on a whim. we played lots in the casino, had pictures taken. missed the 1st formal, we let no clocks dictate to us what to do. it ended up being a relaxing trip, that was very active. make sense? now that i wrote a book here, just remember, the point is to let everyone have an idea, some expectation. just because my experience is different from yours, it does not mean my experience is wrong nor yours. they are only opinions, and to each his own.

We are going Labor Day Weekend and we are leaving from Bush International..if you do not mind can you tell us how much you paid for the limo.

our limo was only a shuttle bus. from the pier to HOU-Hobby, it was $30 or $35 each. sorry, can't remember now for sure. however, your price may be higher because Bush is further away. however, you can search online and find rates, and prepay for them sometimes for a small discount. you may check into renting a vehicle one way. enterprise gave us a great deal one way. but we were not able to secure a rental on the way back, thus the galveston limo shuttle.

hope this helps.

Reason for long debarkation was do to the fact that every 90 days or so all non-us resident crew memebers have to renew their work visa's . If anyone was in line at the far end of the terminal as we were you could see the long line of crew members all having their photo and fingerprints being taken.

CCL knew of this and just wasn't telling anyone. But i don't blame them as much as i do the customs agents who didn't prepare for an extra influx of work by not providing extra agents to just handle the crew.

We had a porter who took us and our group of 8 clean through and to a taxi in like 15 minutes after we got off the ship.

The one thing i will fault CCL on is not providing passengers with enough information to let them know it might take a while and to offer some sort of snack for people who hadn't gotten off by at least 11. Some of us are diabetic and had prepared for situations like this but how about those who didn't and people with young kids who don't understand why mommy can't get them something to eat. We didn't get off till 12:45. Lucky for us we drove from La. but it still didn't put us back till 8:30 pm . So much for resting a few more hours before getting up for work the next day.

I would do this cruise again just at another time of year. AND PLEASE CCL drop Jamaica.

I think the 2 most important people you'll encounter on a cruise are your Waiter and Cabin Steward. If both of those people are efficient, capable and hard-working employees, your enjoyment of your cruise is much more likely. However, if there job performance is less than efficient (perhaps they're new or untrained, simply overworked) you'll sway your opinion the other way. It's unfortunate they can't all be 100% outstanding. It is the luck of the draw.

Your dining experience is a perfect example of that good vs. not-so-good waiter. They were polar opposites of each other in efficiency, attention to detail, and interaction to make your cruise a trip you'll always remember. Not to mention the tablemates you got to enjoy. :D

I just got off the Ecstasy 2 weeks ago and now I am planning on sailing on the Conquest can anyone tell me what room I should ask for . I am doing a balcony and the lady at Carnival said that the ones on the back of the ship are bigger .

We are asking friends to come along and they have all done the Ecstasy and have no idea about the Conquest either .

Also how is the staff really ? because the satff on the Ecstasy was WONDERFUL !!! We loved it and would rather take a shorter cruise on it then take a longer cruise on a ship that is not as clean and have the same quality staff .

Hmmm...never noticed those people but did see the Capitan down there just on the other side of the line talking to someone. One of the line directors with a Carnival name tag told us the reason was the 1000 plus people from Mexico onboard and they were training at customs (On Easter Sunday????) Anyway I agree it relates to customs more than Carnival but I have been on cruises where the customs agents came on board in the lounge and you just walked past them, gave them your information and debarked. This was post 9/11 too.

dh and i were on the conquest march 18. we had an extended length balcony. we were the last balcony on the left side of the ship...# 6450. our balcony was great. you can read my review and get some info if you like. i think it all depends on what you are looking for in a cruise and a cabin. dh & i peeked inside the aft cabins. the balcony was large, and so were the cabins the balcony was in constant sun, so if you like that, the aft may be the way to go. we had sun in the morning and shade in the evening. we were very pleased with our cabin, although some may think a little akward for the layout...(the bathroom door was next to the bed) but it did not bother us any. our particular experience with the staff was not the greatest. out cabin steward was efficient, just not as good as i expected and our waitstaff the same. we changed dinner seatings and were extremely satisfied with our new dinner times. our new waitstaff was tremendous!

here's the link to my review, even though the date is incorrect. we sailed on march 18.

My family and I are sailing May 20th, on Conquest... haven't made hotel resv. yet.

Are there any towns between Houston and Galveston that would have hotels, some seem kind of high there in Galveston...

any ideas???

thanks

michelle

We are staying at the Fairfield Inn in Texas City, it's 16 miles from Galveston right off of I45. With my dads AAA we got rooms for $75 but without that the room prices were only $5 more. You're right about the price but most the hotels offer free cruise parking for the week if you stay there so if you factor that in the price may seem a bit more reasonable. For us, once I figured out that my dad preferred parking at the pier thats when I went outside of Galveston to find a room.

We'll be getting off the Conquest on the 20th - we'll try to leave the ship in good shape!
