carnivalkim Posted January 22, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2007 I think they are both a waste of time, when we were on the Miracle they didn't even show the short movie about the history of Carnival:( And it took forever to get a watered down nasty drink. momofzeke Posted January 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Go! We enjoy the parties. The drinks we had at the PGP and CCP on the Miracle were actually pretty good. The hors' deouvres are tasty, too. Nothing earth-shattering, but nice. There's usually dancing up on the stage at the CCP. The PGP usually shows a little movie about Carnival, and I believe they give away a bottle of champagne or something.
Wennfred Posted January 22, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2007 If its your first Cruise, dont skip the Capt. Party. If youre on your second then use this time to take those Formal Pictures, the Picture Stations will be empty while the Capt party is going on. If you wait till after the Capt. Party those Picture stations will have long lines. Dont miss the Past Guest Party, sometimes thats where they pass out the Pins, the food and drinks are good and free. I Luv Crusin Posted January 22, 2007 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Dont miss the Past Guest Party, sometimes thats where they pass out the Pins, the food and drinks are good and free. Fred On the Glory at Thanksgiving the PGP was in the show lounge. The munchies were already place one each little table. No service at all but the drink waiters came by fairly often. I think the PGP's are getting too big, it's just a cattle call.
Wennfred Posted January 22, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Glad to see you around recently. I had been wondering where you'd gone off to...:) I have been doing over 80 hours of Overtime lately and with all of that spare time, theres alot of Cruising to think about like where too or wha ships etc. Then I get calls from my friends at work and they all ask me Cruise questions. My next cruise seems so so far away.. April 8th on the Spirt for the 3rd time. I think we are going to start planning in between 3 day cruises. Yes its good to take a break, then come back and see whats going on. Glad to be back. Fred
Wennfred Posted January 22, 2007 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2007 The munchies were already place one each little table. No service at all but the drink waiters came by fairly often. Wow, that sounds cool, every cruise I have been too they come around and serve you what they have on those trays. I did notice on my last 3 or 4 cruises they did step up the amount of drink service, they have more to select from and come around alot, thats usually where I get toasted :D You can also go up to the bar and order your drinks there. Jdleong Posted January 22, 2007 #12 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Hey Fred, did you like the snow picture??? You know how we like free drinks. On my Costa cruise I purchased a drink package that has unlimited beer, wine, soda and mineral water at lunch and dinner, both in the main diningroom and at the buffets. It costs $11.40 a day including gratuties..Not too bad. But I still have 2 and a half pages of drink coupons for Carnival...watch out November... Jdleong Posted January 22, 2007 #13 Share Posted January 22, 2007 if i'm a past guest but dh is not can he still come with me to pgp? Yes, just go to the purser's desk and ask for an invitation with his name on it...they won't make you go alone.
Cotton Posted January 22, 2007 #14 Share Posted January 22, 2007 if i'm a past guest but dh is not can he still come with me to pgp? FYI - Past Guest parties are held on cruises of five nights or longer, so if your Celebration cruise is the 4 day, there will be no party anyway. There's nothing wrong with going to that party alone. I do it all the time, as I'm usually a solo cruiser - and female. It's only about 45 minutes, so I'm sure your DH could find something else to entertain himself - casino? The parties are getting 'way too crowded because of guests who have not EARNED the right to attend the party. Sometimes it's allowed, but really is a disservice to those of us who truly earned this privilege.;)

French_Fry Posted January 22, 2007 #16 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Even when it's "free" some people are not satisfied! Amazing! Of course after that you know I'm going to say go to 1 or both if you are a past guest! Sheesh!
MamaParrotHead Posted January 22, 2007 Author #17 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Coming from someone who's been here for all of a month. Doesn't matter if it's free...that isn't the point. I'm not a huge fan of standing in lines, and not a big drinker...so you're saying I should stand there and participate just because it's free? The art auctions are free as well, along with the supposedly nasty rot-gut champagne. I sure as heck wouldn't be wasting my time standing around there, either (nor would I condemn those who choose to do so). All of the trivia and pool games are free, as are the ice carving demonstrations, ship tours, "horse racing" follies, dance classes, napkin and towel folding classes...MAN, you must be TIRED after participating in all those free activities on your cruise. LOL "Free" doesn't necessarily mean "mandatory" or even "good". I'm not cruising for those particular reasons.

truecruiser Posted January 22, 2007 #22 Share Posted January 22, 2007 90% of the time we skip it b/c it interferes w/ early dinner seating (and to get there w/ enough time to spare b/4 hand means leaving LIDO even earlier tham normal to start to get ready:( ). it's nice to see the ship's officer staff. the faces behind all that makes things run. dancing on stage (a lot of mothers and sons and fathers and daughters as well as couples). if you have an early dinner seating, it might prove tight. but you can always pop in for a little bit and then leave if it's not your cup of tea. Hebejeebe Posted January 22, 2007 #25 Share Posted January 22, 2007 Free booze and you can socialize with either the friends/family you came with or meet new people. What's not to like? Seriously, if you want a lame Captain's cocktail, try Princess. On the CB it was in the main atrium and the drinks were even more watered down than Carnival's. On Carnival you can special order your drink - - on Princess if you ask for a glass of wine or anything other than the drinks on the tray they charge you for it. :( . Some things are just better on Carnival.
