Famof6 Posted January 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2007 Our family of three adults and three teens will be cruising in June and stopping at Ocho Rios. We'd really like to do Dunn's River Falls and possibly river tubing, but there is not a ship excursion that combines the two. I've heard that since all of the excursions end up at the falls, it's very crowded in the afternoon and much better in the morning. My question is, is this something we could do on our own? Jamaica has a scary reputation, but if we could climb the falls early and save some money it would be nice.

dirtgirl Posted January 24, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2007 I agree - we did the falls and river tubing + Ferngully with Ione McBeam. She does the same tours that Phil Lafayette, Peat Taylor and others do. $55 plus tips - cash only! I was afraid of Jamaica before going, but we had the most fun this day! TheWog Posted January 24, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2007 We did exactly what you want to do with Peat Taylor www.peattaylor.com and loved it. We were leaving as the ship tours were still lining up and got there early and were almost done by the time some ships tours were arriving. It was $30 each for tour and DRF (now $35 as admission has increased). An additional $20 for the river tubing. We could leave our belongings with Peat and have no worries. He even had a cooler of Red Stripe waiting for us. He is great.
4bythebeach Posted January 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2007 We did the falls in Dec. and just caught a bus right off the boat and negotiated a fare with them and paid our own way into the falls. Do remember to bring water shoes and a waterproof camera. The guides are very good about taking pictures for you. There are lockers at the falls to store your backpack in also. Have fun! Could have missed the tubing, as we do that in NC. It was fun but a little short.
