Hi,

I am doing a cruise from vancouver to whittier on the island princess in august.

We have a large group of 13 people and looking for the best way to get to anchorage the same day if possible. I would like to rent a large van.

if not, then possibly the Princess transfer or train.

Whats the most economical option here. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi ZSO,

There is an AVIS car rental agency right in Whittier. It is a few blocks from where the ship docks. Not sure about the cost of the Princess transfers but I am guessing around $55. With about $715 you have a lot of money to offset the steep drop charge from AVIS. You may even consider renting two vans as with all of the luggage you will probably need two vehicles for transferring back to Anchorage. The good news is I don't think there is a tunnel fee when you are going toward Anchorage from Whittier. Someone else please correct me if I am wrong about that. You will also find some interesting places to stop along the way back to Anchorage if you have your own transportation. You also may be able to make arrangements with a private transportation service. I would do a search on "Whittier Alaska" and you will find a lot more information. Hope this information helps.
