has anyone done this on their own for a day trip? i am trying to find a few things for me an dh to do while at port in Grand Cayman. I have seen that it is a 25 min. trip each way, i am very interested in the cab fare prices. Also the price of admission would be good. thank you:confused:

The Botanic Park has a good website and this page answers most of your questions in depth.

http://www.botanic-park.ky/html/location.html

In brief:

Trip is about 40 min, not 25 from cruise docks. Taxis cost about US$50 each way (plus waiting time for the driver while you tour the park). Negotiate taxi fare before departure. Renting a car is still the recommended way to go.

Admission is CI$6 (US$7.50) for adults, CI$4 (US$5) for kids age 6 to 12, and free for children under age 6. Strangely, I never found the admission price on their webpage. Prices list are off their recorded message line.

Finally, the park opens at 9am. Closing time varies by season, but isn't really relevant for cruise ship guests. It is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day.

I want to visit the Botanic Gardens, but I don't want to pay $100 for a taxi. Have any of you gotten there by city bus? I know that it's possible, but it sounds rather complicated. Any insight would be really helpful.

Thanks

The North Side bus would pass by, and they generally will take short diversions for CI$1.00 in additional bus fare (per person). That could fairly easily get you to the Botanic Park.

The problem is the return trip. You could walk (about a mile) from the park entrance back to the main road. Then you would need to wait for a bus.... and it might be quite a while. Buses do not run on a fixed schedule. Otrherwise, call a taxi for the ride back from the park.... and you may still end up paying quite a lot for that.

Alternatively, rent a car. It is generally my recommendation to do so for excursions to Rum Point, the Botanic Park, or for that matter most anywhere east of about Grand Harbour.
