UNCBlue4Us Posted February 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Absoultely gorgous! We visted Santa Marta in December, via MSC Lirica, and pre-arranged a trip to Tayrona. The highlight of our cruise. And an experience both of us will remember forever. It is on every top 10 list to visit when in Colombia. Not sure how much time you will have in Santa Marta on your cruise. To see Tayrona, for a day trip, you will need 9 or so hours, assuming a guide dockside to pick you up. Tayrona will never be a cruise ship excursion. About a 45 minute drive from Santa Marta to Tayrona. And then, it's a 6 mile roundtrip hike through the jungle to the coast. We were the only passengers out of 1600 or so that took the trip to Tayrona. But, if you are in decent physical condition (I'm 60, my wife 43) and don't mind swinging on a few vines, traversing rocky trails, wading through a lagoon or two, and waiting for the donkey caravans to pass on a very narrow trail...it is one incredible experience. If you have questions, will be happy to help as I can with your posts here. Or email me. And, will be glad to email some of our pictures from Tayrona.
