Lenny970 Posted February 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Just wondering.......I tend to burn easily and always use sunscreen on exposed skin. Will this harm the silicone skirt of the mask? Thanks, Lenny
w&k Posted February 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Lenny- How much degradation you will get depends on the composition of your mask skirt and the type of sunscreen you use. Typically, a high quality of scuba mask will be much less affected due to the better quality of silicone used. Clean your mask seals & skirt when you get back. You can use a little bit of toothpaste - put some in the palm of your hand with a little water, then gently rub the seals with some of that on your fingertips. Rinse well and let air dry. If you always rinse and clean your mask well in fresh water, it should last for years. Wendy
Lenny970 Posted February 16, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Thanks Wendy! I know the skirt is the part that goes against your face. What are the seals? Lenny

drew sailbum Posted February 24, 2007 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2007 If your fingertips are coated with sunscreen when you try to defog your mask, it won't work very well. Apply defog to your mask before you lather up with sunscreen. Defog can dry in place on your mask and you just rinse later.
