VISA gift card vs debit

Recommended Posts

Trying to figure out which is better.. When it comes to using the ATM's is it more reasonable to use your debit card or if I had a VISA gift card loaded and retreived money or does it make any difference at all. Some say the VISA gift card is "safer" if lost. What do you think?

I have not checked out the gift card. The AAA Visa Travelmoney card was about the most expensive way to get foreign currency. Their foreign currency conversion rate was 7%. There were numerous other fees involved as well. Most ATM cards charge 1% to 3% on foreign currency and an ATM fee of $0 to $5. Check with your bank.
