Open Air Taxis to Megans Bay

I am not aware of any open air taxis to Magens Bay. The $2 rides do not go to Magens. You will have to take a regular taxi at about $10 per person each way. There may be an open air one, but the price will be the same $10 per person, regulated by the VI Government.

Sorry,

B.

Hello,

There are different vehicles used for taxis. You can catch an open air safari taxi to Magens. The taxi fare is $8 pp, ow in shared taxi. Taxis are readily available right at the cruise ship dock areas. And yes taxis are generally operating all day.

Goodwrench's comment about paying at the end; this may not apply if you take a taxi to Magens with the intention of taking another different taxi to get back.

Betsy's Mom is refering to the 'dollar rides' which operate in open air safari vehicles too... they are more like public transportation. They don't go to Magens Bay as Betsy's Mom mentioned.

Islander, you've probably been asked this a dozen times, but if YOUR family was visiting St. Thomas for the first time....where would you take them? What would you do? What beach would be the most "family friendly" in your opinion?

Hello,

I've taken friends/family to walk through the historical buildings downtown, over to St. John for the day, to Water Island, Coral World, Paradise Point, to various beaches like Magens Bay, Secret Harbor, Sapphire.

Family friendly beach... what is the age range? what are you looking for at the beach (food/drinks, watersports... snorkeling?)?

Thanks for your reply Islander. We did Coki beach last year. We had an OK day, but the beach seemed overcrowded and dirty and there were a LOT of locals hovering around us smoking pot and talking loud and cursing around our kids. It got to the point where we just wanted to get out of there. We were feeling unsafe. We had read all about these "breathtaking" beaches....but Coki didnt turn out that way for us.

We would love to find a clean beach with great snorkeling. Food and drink would be great. At the risk of sounding spoiled and snobbish, I would love an upper scale resort type of feel to the area. Kids are 10, 14, 24. Is there any horsebackriding in the area??? We are all riders.
