GPS and Maps

I am thinking of getting a GPS for our Eastern Mediterranean cruise next September and would welcome any recommendatons on GPS units and sources for maps to load onto the unit.

 

I would also be interested in sources for paper maps of the Eastern Med.

Lowrance has been around for a long time and they have a produce for all venues. I use theie Iway 350 fro my car an it is wonderful. Also includes a mp3 player and picture viewer through it's SDcard slot.

The Garmin extex Venture is a great basic GPS that is easy to use and affordable. It has a built in moving map display that allows you to actually see where you are vice just looking at a set of coordinates. You can purchase Garmin's Mapsource products which should give you plenty of detail for any area you are interested in. Have a look at the Garmin website for more info - ebay likely has great deals available. This is the GPS of choice for more than a few ground based search and rescue teams.
