What about unused onboard credit?

My husband and I are going to gift ourselves a bunch of onboard credit while we have the money (no suggestions about saving money and earning interest instead please, this will work best for us). Anyway, what if we don't use it all? Can we get a refund, or does it go toward future cruises or what?

Why not go direct to the source at the cruise line ask the question and get it in writing. I would not risk money that could be up for grabs based on what people believe the policy to be.

My guess is you would get it back -- however I have no knowledge to back that information up with.

If there is any doubt, send yourself a large casino credit. The coupons can be cashed in the casino, but don't need to be spent in the casino. Works great for me and I don't have to carry as much cash or TC's with me when we travel.

We also have done the casino credit, no chance of loosing it by not using it unless you play it in the casino. Works great, just fill in the form and fax it to Princess.

You can send yourself casino credits to any Princess ships. Just print off the fax or call Princess with your CC number, have your cabin number and voyage number handy. Vouchers will be in your cabin when you board and you can cash them at anytime the casino is open during your cruise.

Easy and no 3% charge for getting $$ on your cruise card or CC:D :D

How recently have you done this? From another post, I understand they may be changing for this now.

I never laugh at questions - the voyage number is assigned by Princess so that a certain date and itinerary will have a certain number - you can find it in the ships' atlas and in all the literature they send you (you are getting a lot of literature, ads, etc?) On your documents there should be your booking number as well as a voyage number. Nancy

So let me get this right. Once I booked a cruise, I can fax to Princess to ask them charge my credit card for a casino credit without any surchage? Once onboard, can I turn the casino credit in to "real" cash that I can take off the ship?

I called Princess today. The genius that I talked to (took her about 20 minutes to figure out how to let me gift onboard credit to myself) said that if you don't use it, it's erased. I said, "that doesn't make any sense. I'm giving you money, it's my money, I should get it back if I don't use it all." she put me on hold and talked to a supervisor, who said that if there's a balance when we get off the ship, write to customer relations and tell them to refund you and they'll refund it to your credit card.

I imagine the "use it or lose it" applies to when they give you promotional credit, like when you book a future cruise while on board.

Thanx for the info. My ship date is still a ways away maybe thats why I havn't recieved anything from them document wise.

twnkltoz,

I would call back and speek to another rep. I talked with two and my last was a supervisor and I was told by her use it or loose it. I don't understand it either beings how its my money and i should get it back. THEY SAID NO. There is no way they can refund us the money. I asked if it could be used towards another cruise then, and they still said no. It must be spent or it's lost.

What happen if you have purchased casino credit to use as obc. But then for some unforseen reason you have to cancel your cruise. Would the casino credit be refunded? I know the obc wouldn't be. The obc would however go towards a future cruise only if you had to cancel the trip.

Yes, i would certainly call again. I know it stinks because I want to start to pay for other things such as gratuity, soda cards, ext. I don't understand how they can't or won't give us our $ back. PLZ tell me what happens with your second call, ask to speak with a supervisor so you can be almost certain your getting the correct info.

Just called Princess and asked them about casino credit. They said it is the same as onboard credit and I can march into casino and withdraw it in real cash. I didn't know this can be done to onboard credit. Is this informaiton accurate or my Princess rep. didn't know what she was talking about?

If you don't trust Princess to give it back you can always put an advance on your credit card and it will be there as a credit. Most credit card companies will even send you a check for the amount of your credit if you request or you can just leave it on your account to pay for future charges.
