Private island tour

I can't seem to find any info on private tours of the island. If anyone has hired a cab or taken a local tour of the island, I would appreciate any info you can give me. I'm hoping to stay away from the ship's tour so that we can go at our own pace.

When we were there in May, there were many tour guides waiting in port to take cruisers on private tours. You did not have to have them pre-booked either.

Yes, I have seen them, but how reliable are they? I am hoping that someone who has taken one of these will respond. I will be travelling alone with my son and am very hesitant to hop in any car. yes I could go with the ship's tour, but I am adventurous and like the flexibility of a private tour.

I was thinking about renting a car but am also looking for a private person. I e-mailed majestic tours since they said they do custom tours. But, we have a group of 8 so don't know if that will help you.
