Currency for Galapagos Cruise

Do we need to exchange money (US dollars) for the local currency in Equador? We will be in Quito for a day tour and then spend time on the islands. Should we get some pocket change at the airport when we arrive or are the dollars fine to buy some souvenirs, etc.???

Ecuador actually uses the US Dollar as their currency. They buy Dollars from the US Mint and then use them exactly as we do.

 

They found that this was cheaper for them than printing and circulating their own currency.
