Valor or Freedom which ports do you think??

Hi, I currently have a deposit down on joining rooms for Carnival Valor cruising to Cayman Islands, Roatan Island, Belize and Costa Maya March 15th 2009. (yes, planning ahead, lol)

We are family of 5, at the time of cruising, my children will be 5, 7 and 13.

The other option I was throwing around was the 8 day cruise on the Freedom going to San Juan, St Thomas, Antigua, Tortola, and Nassau. (one downside, it doesn't leave for Spring Break, but we can work around it)

I've only been on 2 cruises, both to the Bahamas, wanting to take my family on the best cruise for their first times cruising!

I originally picked the Valor for the ports bcuz they seemed different, and l like the less "at sea" time on both. I really want to take my family to different places, with great beaches and fun excursions.

I am surprising them for Christmas 2008 with this trip, so can't ask their opinions, lol. Need help! I want to make a final decision so I have the rooms reserved and can start saving. (incase I have to change my reservations too)

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom. Been researching all the ports from this site, thanks for this place!!!!!! :D

Those are great itineraries! I love St Thomas, so I always vote for going there. Both both look great no matter which you choose!

Freedom is a brand new ship right? Launching in 2007?

ANd I just have to ask, what made you choose Carnival over the others? I am always interested in hearing the reasons.

Yes, Freedom is their newest ship. I originally was going to book that cruise, but saw the rays in GC and the cave tubing in Belize, and thought those sounded like great family activities. But, Antigua looks sooo beautiful. :) I picture myself relaxing on the beach there, especially since we just had a blizzard here for 2 days...

I picked Carnival bcuz of the prices, mainly, for joining balcony rooms, the prices are very reasonable, and I like the kids programs if needed... I have to go with a balcony bcuz my husband isn't too keen on the idea of cruising, never been, so I have to do it right, but affordable, especially when it's going to be a surprise to them all. :)

I just want to pick the best ports now!!

Thanks!

Just want to throw this out there though....the kids may *not* want to do the sting rays. I asked that question here and got varied responses, so I asked my 7 year old (who is usually fearless) and she said NO WAY.

I wanted to do tubing, but the age on it was 12...she couldn't go at 7 years old.

So just be careful and check age requirements too for the excurions you want to do. Don't be disappointed liek I was.

I found a tour thru Xtreme, (I think is who it was thru, have to check my notes), that has a "kids' tubing, for ages under 8. They have to wear vests, and it is a smaller tour than the original, less people allowed per tour. The guides decide if there will be 1 or 2 caves in the tour. My kids boat and tube, as we have a boat, so I am sure they will do just fine on this calmer tour.

As far as the sting rays, I imagine the kids will sit on the tour boat I am looking at booking, and watch, especially after Croc Hunter... BUT, I think they'd enjoy the view of the stingrays. I showed them pics of people in w/stingrays, got alot of "eeewwww"s, but I know they'd enjoy seeing them from dry land. :D
