Fantasy Only Questions ...

LOL at the GRITS54. (It stands for Girl Raised In The South.)

The cat. 11 suites are on the verandah deck. The cat. 12's are on the upper deck, which is like deck 2 or something. I never understood why they'd name a LOWER deck "Upper"! LOL! As far as I know, there are no obstructed balconies on the cat. 12's.

Yup, I've got a GRITS baseball cap!

For some reason, I'm not seeing any availability on the Cat. 12's on the "Upper" (lower) deck.

We are actually trying to book via a specialty cruise service and I'm not sure how we'd ask for a particular cabin. But, I DO want to know what cabin to NOT ask for!

Thanks again!

47 days until we board the Fantasy for our first cruise! Thanks to everyone for your great reviews and photos, we are soooo excited!!!

I felt a little queasy when we first booked it when I finally found room photos of the pink/purple/orange decor and the neon! But thanks to all of you I know that they have revamped the ship and the decor and am soo excited!!

mlpreston-you need to check out the rollcall board-there is thread for this sailing. We are also on the same sailing as you. This is our annual "girls only trip". We were also on the Nov 9th (4 day) sailing on the Fantasy-there were 4 couples (ages 40-60) and we had a blast.

V23, V25, V27, V34, V38 & V42 are the cabins with the obstructed view. I did a search to find a thread about this, which had some good pics of it, but I couldn't find it.

Hey, Grits53!

Do you happen to know if the same problem exists on the Upper level deck with the Cat. 12 cabins? Do some of those also obstructed views?

Couple of questions:

Food-wise: What is not included in the price of the cruise? (I know that drinks aren't included) Are all of the restaurants on the ship included in the price?

Should I bring lots of baby food with me or can the cooks puree vegetables/fruits for my baby?

S&S card: How much is considered average spending for a cruise? How much do they charge your credit card up front?

Misc: Can I bring a hair dryer?

Can I plug a bottle warmer in, in my cabin?

We will be sailing on the Fantasy in category 12 stateroom U69 on 04/16/07. I will take a ton of pictures from every angle and post as soon as we return. As far as I am aware none of the cat 12s have an obstructed view and I hear that the balconies are quite large for this ship. Just 41 days to go!!

Is there a grocery/drug store near the port? I wanted to stop and get a few bottles of water/soda. I know that it near the Riverwalk and the Convention center but I don't remember from my prior visits that there is any store in either of these facilities. We are taking a taxi from the airport so we don't have all the flexibility.

Can hardly wait to see your pictures ... I realize that lots of things may change between now and the time that we actually cruise, but it will be so much fun seeing every thing and letting other family and friends know what to look for ..

I was conflicted as to whether we should book a Cat. 11 or 12. However, I opted for being on the Verandah deck with a balcony and a cheaper price than on the Upper deck for more $$$ but more space. We are not big into large crowds or a party scene....we like our own space and privacy, so I felt like a balcony was essential. I'm still a bit torn about the Cat. 12's. though

Also, I am a bit concerned about the location of the Cat. 11's....toward the bow. Does that mean one feels more motion? Anybody have any experience in either of these catagories of state rooms? I'd love to have your feedback.

I have sailed on the FANTASY twice and on the SENSATION ( the sister ship). I would NEVER book a Cat 11 on the Verandah Deck. Yes, many of the cabins do have obstructed views. Those up front, V1-V14 have a stairway right below the balcony so those coming up the stairs can look right into your cabin a floor level. Those further back have obstructed views due to the life boats. Spend the extra money and book Cat 12 on the "upper" deck, very private and very nice.

Hi All.

My DW and I sailed on the Fantasy in 96 for our first cruise. We did a 4 day out of Port Canaveral. We loved it. We just did the Glory last month. We are considering a 5 day on the Fantasy after the first of the year in 08. We want to go after the holdays, and before Spring break. We also want to splurge and do a Cat. 11, or 12. Any suggestions as to the best time, and how to get the best prices, and upgrades. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Gary

I agree. Book the Cat12 if you're going to book a suite. There are a lot of photos and posts about the Cat11 and Cat12 suites on the boards. Do a search for them and look for the long thread started by Curt Jerome Wild. We were on Upper deck last week (not in a suite unfortunately) and it was really pretty quiet. I only heard noise in the hall on the afternoon we got back from Cozumel but that's pretty normal. ;)

Grocery near the port - not really. You'd be a lot better off to have your taxi driver stop at one closer to the airport so you can run in quickly.

Food wise - all is included on the ship except the specialty coffee and desserts in the Bistro. There is no supper club on Fantasy. Personally, I would bring baby food for a baby and not trust someone to puree food that has spices and such that your baby may not be used to.

S&S - they don't charge your credit card up front. It's charged at the end of the cruise. Keep in mind your tips of $10 per person per day will be charged to your account right away. About 1/2 way through the cruise, they will put your bill under your door so you can see where you are at on your spending. The final bill is slipped under the door the morning you depart. At any time, you can go to the Information Desk and check your balance. Average spending is relative....it's all over the board for different cruisers. Our last 5 day, my S&S account was about $350 but you can do it for much less. (OK....that's a lie. It was MUCH higher with a jewelry purchase but everything except my ring came to about $350. We take our own wine.)

Yes you can bring a hairdryer. NO Irons or candles. A bottle warmer shouldn't be a problem but you might want to check with Carnival first. They have pretty strict guidelines to follow for fire safety. Remember to ALWAYS unplug everything (hairdryers, camera chargers, laptops etc.) when you are done using them. Plugs in the cabin are very limited. A lot of people bring a power strip.

VIP Boarding in NOLA has a separate room for embarkation and check in. You should be able to get on board without having to wait in a long line to check in.

I don't believe any of the Cat12's on Upper have an obstructed view (but not 100% sure about that.)

I've never seen a chapel on this ship or any ship for that matter. Sometimes there are services but they're held in another public area.

A 13 and 17 year old will have a blast! I've never taken kids that age so maybe someone else can elaborate. There's a Club O2 on Fantasy for one thing. I know all the teens I saw were having a great time. They're nocturnal little creatures aren't they? I only noticed them at night for some reason! :D

Gary - the Cat.11 and 12's sell out really fast on the Fantasy class ships. I would suggest that you put a deposit down on one through a Carnival PVP then watch for rate drops. Best time in my opinion is as soon as the pricing is available. Remember that you're only putting down a deposit (that's refundable up until final payment date) but you are guaranteed a suite in the category you want. I know on our cruise in May, we booked 6 months out and there were no suites. If I really wanted one, I'd do it early. In this area, "between the holidays and spring break" means anytime in the month of January or February (remember Mardi Gras in Feb.). Spring breaks start here the first part of March. Good luck.

If I am doing this correct, the link below should be to the thread of the review I did for our time on the Fantasy January 2007. You'll note that in the title I misspelled Fantasy. The Fantasy was wonderful and New Orleans was great too! Any questions, let me know.

There is a Walgreens on Decatur at Jackson Square. Easy access, and pretty fair pricing. Worth the walk or a quick drive. Have someone in your party drop you off.....you shop while they go turn around down by the french market and begin the trek back toward walgreens........you'll finish in just about the right tijme, and your vehicle will be headed in the direction of the cruise terminal. :)

Take lots of pictures, we have a cat.12 9 (u106) in Oct. and would love to see recent pictures of these rooms.

We have had this category before but on the Fascination before it's last dry dock. I have heard there is quite a few changes to these ships after dry dock.

None of these rooms have an obstructed views, nice sized room and balcony, plenty of storage space.

robomom.......

I have had both cat.11 and a cat. 12 on this class of ship, the 12 is larger with a larger balcony and a larger sofa. The location is in the middle of the ship, I guess that's good for a more smoother.

I personally like the location of the cat.11's much more, walk down the hall and down one flight of stairs and you are on the lido deck. If there are just 2 ppl you have plenty of room, 3 ppl is not bad either. I don't remember there being much movement up there either, but each sailing is different.

We have a cat. 12 booked this time only because the military rate was too good to pass up.

Thanks, Josie,

I think we'll stay with the Cat.11 for this cruise since there are only 2 of us and it's only a 5 day cruise. I'll be sure and check out the options as best I can (wonder if someone would let me take a peak inside a 12 while we're on board?) and I'll take some photos, too. I'm sure we'll be fine. When I think about how much time we'll actually spend on the balcony or the even in the cabin, I feel better about the 11 (and the money saved) all the time!

An extra on sail away......... go straight to the end of hallway and walk out the doors, you'll have one of the best views for takeoff, you'll also be close because you will have just finished muster drill and will need to take back the lifevests.

We had V14, what's yours?

We had V14 on the Sensation,(the sister ship of Fantasy) and we loved having it, and loved the location. I know these suites are not as big as the Cat 12's and the balconies are not what I would call private, but we never felt like we were crowded or on display, it was nice to be able to just step outside and sit in the sunshine and rest. The buffet was just a short walk away and the front observation deck was right down the hallway. I would never try to fit my whole family in one, but I would love to stay in one again if it were just me and my hubby! ;) Also, the VIP check in was great, we bypassed the lines and were on the ship in under 30 minutes (there was a wedding party that went ahead of us).

Y'all enjoy your suite, we are getting 2 oceanview rooms this time out, one for the kids, if anyone is interested in pictures of what the ovceanview suites on the Fantasy look like I found some after I did a google search here:
