come on a mainstream cruise???? everyone is a tourist.... no way you can be deemed a traveler on a cruise stop.. not even on an exotic itinerary....

I don't agree at all. Have you ever been to Jamaica? Belize? Costa Maya? Once you get out of the the tourist part there are lots of place you can go to experience their culture. Just because they are mainstream tourist spots doesn't mean you can't do something outside the norm there. Grab a taxi in Jamaica and have the driver take you up into the jungle and to see some schools and eat at a roaside stand. You'll definately experience a different culture there.

Kristi. I couldn't agree more. My best example is the port call at Progreso. That's how I discovered Merida, the most delightful city I've seen in Mexico. Thirty minute bus ride from Progreso and you're seeing Mexico at it's finest.

Went back for eight days and hoping to go for two weeks in Jan with a few days in some small neighboring towns.
