Bicycle Tour in Barbados?

We did the bike tour that leaves from Highland Adventure Centre last week. We booked the excursion through the Crown Princess. You are met at the cruise terminal and everyone gets onto a small bus. The driver was very pleasant and gave us a guided tour to Highland which is located on one of the highest points on the island.

Once everyone is outfitted with bikes, helmets and water the group sets out. There are several stops along the route which is mostly downhill. It isn't a difficult ride but it is quite bumpy as the roads you ride on are quite rough. We had a good time. There is only one steeper uphill section which wasn't too difficult but several in the group needed to walk up the hill. There is a leader from Highland at the head of the group and one that rides "cleanup". The group stops along the way so that everyone catches up and no one is left behind. There is a jeep with a trailer for all of the bikes that follows the group the entire trip. If the route is too much, I guess you could put your bike on the trailer and ride in the jeep until the end.

You basically ride from the Highland Centre at the top of the island down to the ocean where the bus that you rode out on from the port picks you up. This is nice as you can leave your "stuff" (beach towels, sunscreen, etc.) on the bus. Once the ride is completed, the bikes are loaded on the trailer and you get back on the bus. Our tour also included a stop at Malibu Beach when we were done riding. I think we stayed there for about 1 1/2 and the bus picked us up again and took us back to the ship. The tour pick up time was around 8:30am and we got back to the ship 1:30. The tour tickets said that we would be back before lunch but that didn't happen and it was okay for us as we didn't have anything planned for the afternoon.

It was a fun day, well organized, and we had a good time but the ride certainly wasn't hard. Would I do it again, probably not, but it was fun to do once.
