Star Princess "Odor"

Hi- We will be cruising on the Star next month and would like an update on the odor situation we've heard about on these boards. Is anyone on board right now who can give us some information? We sailed on the Star 2 years ago and didn't notice any type of odors but we are a bit worried this time.

Thanks!

I've been following threads about the dreaded sewerage smell on the Star for many months now - DH and I sailed the Star in the 10 day Baltic on 9/12-9/22/06 in D228 and again on 2/10-2/17/07 to the Western Caribbean in cabin A239 and never at anytime on either cruise did we experience the reported sewerage smell. As a matter of fact we had Cruise Critic meetings on both cruises and not one person reported that they had experienced it.

When we with met up people during the course of each cruise - in all cases the running joke was that there was no smell and that we would have to find something else to complain about - we never did.

Just my two cents worth and we have booked the Star again for November.

We were on the Feb. 17-24th Dolphin deck D503 Starboard side and there was an sewage odor when we went out to the balcony - however many others did not smell anything - there were many posts on this off and on.

It did not spoil our vacation but we did not sit on our balcony. We have written Princess and not heard back yet although it is early days. We really just wanted to inform them of the fact we brought it to the Purser's attention about the third evening and next morning they called and said it was fixed. It was not - that was the part we wrote them about. It would have been nicer if they had said 'yes, there's a smell, we can't fix it'.

I would suggest booking Port side. We did have a great trip, just that one thing which didn't really make a 'bad' vacation, just couldn't use our balcony - we should have booked an oceanview.:)

You think B505 will be any better?

We have this cabin in early April ... and have waited for this cruise for almost 2 years.... ( our Star Cruise around this time last year was cancelled) and we decided to take the upgrade to a balcony. Originally had an oceanview.

We've been reading great reviews recently about the Star and it seems like the "dreaded smell" hasn't been too much of an issue for lots of posters lately, so our fingers are crossed. In any event, glad you had a good cruise.

From the sounds of things it is not so bad now. Other than the odor which we did encounter, star is a great ship , food is very good, entertainment is great is was generally a pretty good ship. You will have a great time.

We sailed Star in November. That icky icky smell was definitely noticeable when on Lido on up (outdoors). It did make it a tad unpleasant. Seemed worse depending on how the wind was blowing. It wasn't all the time or even every day but we did notice it. Never from inside, just while out on the decks.

ETA: We never EVER smelled it while on our own balcony, and sat out there often and at various times of day both in and out of port.

To the previous poster who never smelled it on their balcony. You were lucky, for us it was at our end of the ship in the hall, our room and balcony. They must have done some work on it however, because there have not been complaints about it lately, which is good for future cruisers, they wont have to worry about it.
