Which beach to choose?

Traveling here in mid July on Carnival. Has anyone done the Jungle Beach excursion through Carnival? How was it? Would you recommend it or just getting a cab on our own to another beach for the day? If so, what beach should we go to? First time cruisers.

Hey Travgurl....

We just returned from Costa Maya a few days ago, onboard the Grand Princess.

We spent the day at a place called The Hotel Maya Luna.

http://www.hotelmayaluna.com

It is a very small, slighly rustic hotel on the beach. It was beautiful !!!!

Very reasonably priced.

The owners are from Holland.

Very hospitable.

Great food.

Great hammocks.

They will only "charge you for being there"..... if you do not purchase a meal while you are there.

And that charge for being there is only $5.00. (if no food purchased)

The hotel is 6 miles from the Cruise Pier.

It was a nice ride, because we were able to see all of the "local living".

The Maya Luna will only allow a maximum of 15 cruise ship passengers a day to be there, so they require you to put down a small deposit, via paypal.

I recommend this place with no hesitation.

It was an extreme highlight of our cruise.

Was in port on March 7th. Took a bus to Majahual for $3 pp. 5 min. ride. Walked around for a little while. Lot's of vendors and people asking for you to come and see their beach. We settled on this place called El Faro's. Nice beach, none of the beaches are paradise, but this one was nice. They had lounge chairs and your own table and chairs when you ate. We had steak tacos, quesadillas, chips and guacamole (all day long) 10 beers, 3 pina coladas, and 1 bahama mama. We payed $43 and we stayed there the whole day. It was awesome! Another cool thing was that there was a snorkeling boat that came in while we were relaxing. I went over and asked how much the snorkeling was. $15 pp and you talk about some outstanding snorkeling. The tour guy took us out to the reef, we seen a lobster, a queen conch still in it's shell, numerous fish of different types, sea anomene(sp.), and I even got stung by an urchin (word of advice, don't touch them like I did). Taxi back was $2 pp. This was the best part of our entire cruise. Don't waste a lot of money on the cruise ship excursions. Grab your own slice of paradise right there in Majahual at a quarter of the expense.

We have returned from Majahual this week & spent a "wonderful time at Suzie's Jungle Wear" South of the Village of Majahual. Thay have tables & chairs directly on the Beach & we spent an extremely relaxing day on their quite beach while talking to John & Suzie the owners. They sell many beautiful things, clothing, jewelry & "no pressure" to purchase at reasonable prices. They also serve drinks, Salsa & condiments.

They welcome "all of the Tourists from the ships" & are wonderful gracious hosts! Make sure you stop on the way to Maya Palms, directly past "Margerita Del Sol" & ON THE WAY SOUTH OF MAJAHUIAL WHILE DRIVING YOUR ATV OR GOLF CARTS IT'S WORTH THE TRIP. Regards, Annie dreaming of Majahual soon again................
