britchicknyc Posted March 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2007 I know RCCL charges the third person rate and that NCL just charges the taxes. What do other's charge?
crusinmama06 Posted March 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2007 Everyone charges 3rd and 4th person rates except NCL and Disney who charges taxes and port fees. BUT with Disney you will pay more for the 1st and 2nd person rate. I'll explain. On my Disney cruise we paid $2300 for EACH adult, then my oldest was 5 at the time and she was $899 and my youngest (an infant at the time) paid taxes/port fees $220....Total price for fam of 4 $5,719 NOT including airfare. On RCCL, Carnival, Princess there are $99 - $199 deals for the 3rd and 4th person in the room. So for instance, on one of my Carnival cruises we are paying $699 for the 1st and 2nd person in the room, then $245 for each child and this is the penthouse suite, top category on Carnival. Total Price - $1,888 So yes you can pay only port fees for children under 2 on Disney, BUT you will be paying more in the long run.

goin'toalaska Posted May 1, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2007 I'm pretty positive the previous poster was wrong. We are cruising on HAL, and were charged just taxes and port charges for our under 2 daughter. (Of course, those were pretty expensive just on their own.) calikak Posted May 3, 2007 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2007 I found out from my TA recently that Cunard used to just charge the port taxes and fees for infants, but now they charge a full 3rd person rate.
gizmo Posted May 11, 2007 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2007 I'm pretty positive the previous poster was wrong. We are cruising on HAL' date=' and were charged just taxes and port charges for our under 2 daughter. (Of course, those were pretty expensive just on their own.)[/quote'] If you were not charged, it was because of a "special promo" Hal may having been running at the time of booking. Hal normally charges the 3rd person rate.
rebeccalouise Posted May 11, 2007 #8 Share Posted May 11, 2007 Everyone knows that I am a Celebrity fan. Just so you know, Celebrity has incabin babysitting at night for babies- 6mo. and older. For a few of course. You have to go and sign up on the first day for the babysitting. It is subject to availability. Celebrity charges the 3rd person rate for babies. But to have someone to sit at night really makes for a better vacation. IMO. One reason why Disney is so expensive is that they don't have casinos on board. Just goes to show how the other cruise lines make their money! I am not a gambler but the rest of us are getting the cheaper prices because the casinos make up alot of the profit. In fact, only 10% of cruisers ever walk away with any winnings. That's good odds for the cruise lines.
rebeccalouise Posted May 11, 2007 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2007 I meant to say "for a fee" not a "few"
crusinmama06 Posted May 11, 2007 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2007 Rebecca I agree. The lack of a Casino AND that there are only 2 ships right now (2 more being built in 2011 and 2012) that they are so full and can charge the big bucks. :)

Wrong? lol...just kidding. I have never cruised with HAL but from what I have seen around here people have been charged for their infant. If that is incorrect I am sorry. :o
JCSM-Mom Posted May 11, 2007 #12 Share Posted May 11, 2007 I've always paid 3rd and 4th for the kids except Disney too. Disney is more expensive though, on the postive side their cabins are nicer. Three best cabins I've ever had were: Family cabin on Mercury, Junior Suite Aft on Voyager, and Inside on Disney (believe it or not), we had 5 people stuff to put away it it all fit. (One child was booked with my parents in adjoining cabin, can not book 5 in inside on Disney I don't think). But, we kept all the stuff in our cabin...well and the kids too since everyone refused to sleep over there....which is highly unusual...we usually get ditched for grandma and grandpa.
