Paying for things at the Ports

Recommended Posts

No, you can't use the Seapass card in the ports that is strictly for the ship and except for bingo and the casino they don't accept cash anywhere.

While you are in ports US dollars are fine. Make sure you bring a bunch of small bills for the taxi's, tips and such since many times they will tell you they don't have change. The larger shops will all take credit cards or cash. The littler places or street vendors want cash. You can cash your traveler checks at the pursers desk or the casino but remember to do it the night before as the casino is not open in port and the pursers desk gets really busy in the morning.

You can pay with US cash in both of those ports, even though the local currencies are Mexican Pesos and Belize Dollars.

The current exchange rates are actually...

1 USD = 11.1688 MXN

1 USD = 1.96 BZD

Let's be realistic... there are cruises to many places in the US. Have you ever seen a merchant in the US who accepts Sign and Sail cards? It's the internal currency of the ship. You can't get a country to accept Sign and Sail cards instead of real currency.

You can use traveller's cheques and credit cards in larger stores and banks. Local ATMs are likely to give local currency, though you may find some special ATMs that might provide US dollars.
