Hi, just got my email for my 4/22 inaugural cruise that the Queen will be delayed due to high seas and not to arrive at the terminal before 4pm on the 22nd!! Boarding from 4:30 - 6:30. Thought the early risers to see the ship in will want to know. Now I have to figure out where to spend the day once I arrive at the airport from the redeye tired and ready for a nap!

Does this help? This is part of the message:

We look forward to welcoming you aboard the Queen Mary 2 on Thursday. Please be advised that due to heavy seas encountered during her transatlantic crossing to New York, the QM2’s arrival will be delayed for several hours.

Our plans for the 2-night inaugural event will go forward as planned, however embarkation hours have been changed as follows:

Check-in begins: 4 p.m.

Boarding times: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Please do not arrive at the terminal prior to 4 p.m. as there is limited seating capacity.

They didn't say how late. We were originally scheduled to board at 1 pm.

And Cunard said:
quote:
the QM2’s arrival will be delayed for several hours...however embarkation hours have been changed as follows:

Check-in begins: 4 p.m.

So, unless Cunard said 'she won't arrive until 4pm' it looks as though 2+2=5.....Check-in starts at 4pm, not - as far as I can see - arrival of the QM2 - it may be they are trying to avoid the Southampton fiasco of people disembarking and embarking at the same time....so they may want to start embarkation only once the ship is clear.....

Latest news from NY Times suggests:
quote:
Exactly how late remains to be seen, but definitely too late for the "Today" show. The arrival of the Queen Mary 2 - the 1,132-foot-long Cunarder that is the world's longest, tallest, widest and most expensive passenger ship - had originally been timed for morning television tomorrow.

For much of the day yesterday, Cunard officials said that they expected the ship to make up much of the time it lost when it slowed down for two cyclonelike weather systems in the North Atlantic. But last night, they said it would not sail under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and dock in Manhattan until about 10 a.m., two hours behind schedule.

The NYT is a bit confusing - not clear whether its 'under the bridge' or 'dock' at 10.00 - 'under the bridge' is usually 6 - 6.30, with arrival at the pier 08.00 - so looks like she may be 2-4 hours or so late.....more time on the ship for the pax.....poor things!

Name another ship that could even catch up this much lost time. (Other than QE2, of course.)

QM2 is doing just what she was designed for--handing a serious storm and making up much of the lost time.
