Pre Cruise in LA

We are sailing on the Pride next Feb. My wife and myself and our 17year old boy.

We are arriving into LA or Long Beach on Weds, pick up rental car and check in at hotel. This will give us all day Thurs, Fri. Sat. to sightsee. Sun wake up return rental and make our way over to the ship. Any advice of what area to stay and what to see. I was thinking of a drive up Rte. one to Malibu or a little further. The walk of fame, Rodeo Dr. Maybe a movie set tour our two. Any ideas? Another family is travelling with us but not necessarily doing the same land itinerary. My older boy and his girlfriend are arriving on Sat. Thanks ;)
