Passport for Puerto Rico?

Hi all. I was wondering if a passport was needed for sailing out of Puerto Rico now of in the future? They are not really a state, although a territory. How does that work for sailing or flying? Thanks. :)

You 'll never ever need a passport if you fly to puerto rico from the usa..

You will need a passport period for sailing anywhere from puerto rico starting in 2008 , but not in 2007 unless you are doing a 1 wat sail to another country and flying back.

No, what is being said is that if you board a cruise ship that sails from San Juan and it enters any port other than St. Thomas on your cruise you will need a passport to RE-ENTER San Juan in 2008. Once you pass thru customs and immigration in San Juan you will not need to show your passport to re-enter the US mainland........

The one way sail is like you got off the ship in Barbados and tried to fly back into the US. You would need a passport for that to RE-ENTER the US.

Puerto Rico is a US territory and its citizens are US citizens. You will never need a passport to travel between Puerto Rico and the mainland or any other US territory. However, if you are traveling from Puerto Rico to other ports or countries, the same rules that apply to the mainland apply to travel to and from Puerto Rico.
