Maxsboubie Posted March 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2007 Any suggestions for a tour guide to do "Jewish Turkey"? How do we get the special permission to do these siters?
martyap Posted March 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2007 We were in Istanbul last October for 5 days but although we had considered visiting the main synagogue we did not. You should pre-arrange a visit. You could do it on your own but several private tour guides will expedite this for you. We used Lale Kosagan and she was excellent. You would have to fax a copy of your passport. Ekol tours is another. Both are reasonably priced. We were in a group of 6-8 for the private tours we arranged in Istanbul. We did get to visit the Jewish Ghetto in Venice and the synagogue in Dubrovnik when we were touring independent of the group. Paul S Posted March 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2007 Martyap We will be in Dubrovnik in May. Is the Synagogue worth visiting? We will also be in Istanbul, just for one day, and have alreaady booked Ekol for a tour. Is there any Jewish content that might be worth substituting for something else on the tour? I don't know whether you got to the Jewish cemetary out on the Lido at Venice. It's apparently the oldest in Western Europe, and was well worth the visit. Many thanks. Paul S The synogogue in Dubrovnik is off the main square. It is very small and won't take much time....as will the museum. It's a MUCH smaller area than Venice. Maxsboubie Posted March 26, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted March 26, 2007 Martyap, thanks for the answer. I would like to use Lale, how do I reach her? Were you ever scared or nervous in the Jewish areas? Who gets the faxed copy of the passport?
