Victoria British Columbia Pubs Bars ?

Recommended Posts

We will be on the Golden Princess in mid-May for a week in Alaska. Last stop is Victoria British Columbia before returning to Seattle, WA. Since the ship stops there early in the evening and leaves 4 hours later, can anyone recommend a pub for a drink and maybe a place for desert? Something nearby the port would be great!

Nilla,

I too have just registered the fact that our ship will be in Victoria from 5 pm to 11.59 pm, in late September. Any suggestions?

We usually like to do our own thing and I had thought of doing the Gardens but note that the ship is not offering them which makes me think there would not be enough time. It seems a shame not to see something of your town and the ship is offering Victoria Highlights and Mt. Tolmie.

I would really appreciate your thoughts - thank you.

We will be on the Sun Princess the week of 9/2 and have been considering what to do. Since its the last night on the ship we sort of feel bad if we don't say goodbye to our waitstaff. But then again, we really would like to see the Inner Harbor. We're considering doing a pub crawl of our own, rather than the one ship offers. We're looking for some interesting pubs, good food - maybe eat dinner in one and go for drinks and dessert somewhere else, then just walk around - not sure what we're going to do. Is the exchange rate still good? I know the dollar was really strong a few years ago, but I haven't kept up with it. Anyone know? Any suggestions for good pubs, good food, good drinks?

This was our idea too - we figured that we'll eat dinner and say good bye to the staff, and then go into Victoria (ship gets there after dinner).

Hopefully someone will chime in and let us know where to go!!

If I recall the ship doesn't dock too far from downtown. Two downtown choices plus one a little outside that I'd recommend are:

Fairmont Empress Hotel - Fantastic hotel with some nice bars

http://www.fairmont.com/empress/

Cactus Club Cafe - 2-3 blocks northwest of the hotel. Caters to a younger group but upscale and pretty cool.

Spinnakers Brew Pub - Probably the most difficult to get to but worth the trip. Located on the South East side of the harbour. http://www.spinnakers.com/brewpub/index.htm

  • 4 weeks later...

Here are more suggestions:

Sticky Wicket at the Strathcona Hotel - http://www.bctravel.com/strathent.html

Swans Brew Pub in the Swans Hotel -

http://www.swanshotel.com/pub.php

JBI Pub in the James Bay Inn -

Canoe Club -

http://www.canoebrewpub.com/index.html

Spinnakers, mentioned in an earlier post, is also a popular place. It's across the harbour from the cruise ship port and there's a little harbour ferry you can take to get there. Here's a link to the harbour ferry website. http://www.victoriaharbourferry.com/index.html

The harbour ferry's schedule (look under The Experience tab for schedules, routes and fares) says the last ferry is 8:15 pm, so if you decide to go to Spinnakers you'd have to take a taxi back to the ship.

Of the ones I listed, all are an easy taxi ride from the ship. I've been to all of them at one time or another, although JBI and Sticky Wicket, not too recently. I'd certainly recommend Swans or Canoe Club. Canoe Club does have good desserts.

Enjoy your stay here!
