Scuba or Snorkel? - Carnival Legend

We're taking 1st cruise ever. Belize stop DD15 wants to see the reef - she's a marine life NUT & intends to be a researcher. We've booked 'Discover Scuba' for me, DS17 & DD15 (DH doing a tour). Has anyone done this? Would we see more if we snorkeled? Which tour?

Thanks to all who may have input!

We did the Turneffe snorkel and beach break last year and enjoyed it so much we signed up for it again this year. We are both certified divers but enjoy the snorkeling because it's so easy and relaxed. Plus they pick you up right off the ship and drop you off. The reef is amazing!
