Staying in Clear Lake.....

If you arrive in Houston early but are not wanting to spend an arm and a leg for accomodation in Galveston you might want to try staying in Clear Lake near NASA.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites which is off the I45 South (far enough to be quite) It is only 30 min from Galveston. There is also a Best Western almost across the road. All sorts of food there too like outback steakhouse and a Wal Mart one exit further down or a Target (5 min across the I 45 - you also find a Macys and an assortment of other stores in the complex there)

Also if you can check out NASA and if you can do the Level 9 tour it is absolutley worth it!!!! You and 11 others get up really close while the normal visitors either have their noses flat on the window while you are inside or don't get to go there at all.

We're also convenient to those cruising out of the Port of Houston, located in LaPorte. It is less than 30 minutes to that terminal and the new Port of Houston Terminal due to open in '08 will be even closer.

Lots of new-ish motels/hotels in this area and LOTS of restaurants and shopping. As Moeve said, NASA/Johnson Space Center is in this area. We are also close to the Kemah Boardwalk (http://www.kemahboardwalk.com) which is good for an afternoon/evening of fun.
