Rhapsody Review 3/25

Recommended Posts

Hi Kelly,

We were in room 4570, if you have an oceanview the window is pretty big, we always had the curtains opened and the view was great!!! Plus our room was only 3 from the main floor or Champaign Bar and elevators so that was a plus!! I'm jealous of you going, you'll love it!! :D Any other questions??

Lori :)

My brother and sister in law will be in 4550 (I think), we went a little cheaper and went inside, 4551, as did my other bil and sil (4553). Was the noise from the casino above much of a problem? Also, I saw that the dining room is on the same floor, do you enter on the 4th floor no matter if you are seated on the 4th or 5th, or is there another entrance on the 5th if your table is up there?

I am sure I have a million questions for you, but I will do a search and make sure they have not already been answered. Mostly I am just excited about going, and want to make sure I do not miss anything! :)

I never heard one thing from the casino!! I even napped during the day and I never nap at home!! It was the best sleep! If you have an inside room I advise you to take a nightlight, it is pitch black at night!! You could leave the bathroom light on but its really bright lights- Also take an extension cord too! Only one outlet in room! Also there are hair dryers too! Yes you enter the Main dining room "The Edelweiss" from deck 4 or 5, and there is a staircase inside also to go up, we had table 188 first table as you walk in on deck 4, perfect and right next to the window, plus we sat with great Texan's!!! Also you will see on the TV watch channel 22, that is the shopping channel for tips at the ports, plus they have a seminar you can go to also. Channel 39 is the ships info channel and also menu for room service! Don't hesitate to ask questions ok I asked a ton prior to leaving too!! :) Oh don't bring beach towels, you get them in your room everyday and you can get clean ones if you need more ok!! More room for shoes :p

Lori, thanks so much for your advice. I had heard the advice about the nightlight and the extension cord. How good are the hair dryers? My hair is pretty fine, so it dries easily, but my sister in laws both have thick hair and I am wondering if they should bring theirs from home. Thanks for the tips about the channels to watch. Does rhapsody have the interactive tvs where you can check your seapass statement, etc? What other programming is available? I am especially wondering about children's programming, as my 3 year old will probably not take naps on the trip, but I could probably get him to relax a little and watch a cartoon or something. Do you have any tips on don't miss shows, drinks, meals, activities, etc? Did you keep your cruise compasses? If so, do you happen to have them posted at webshots or some similar webpage? Thanks again for all your help!

We had our locked checked make up bag put on "hold" until we came down. We don't drink but through the x-ray machine they saw our sunscreen bottles. When we got down there they had us unlock the luggage and they searched the bags. Also everytime we came back on the ship they would check our water bottles. If they were not sealed they would open them and smell them. They were checking everybodys bags when they got back on the ship.

So I guess the story is, to avoid having to go down to pick up your bags, pack all of your liquids (hairspray, suntan lotion, etc) in your checked luggage on the airplane, pull it out when you land, and move it to your carry on. I'm sorry, but I would be ticked if I had to take time out of my vacation to prove that my hairspray is really hairspray.

the prices of the drinks on board aren't expensive. Where they get you are the pictures. Usually they are very good and are put up to be reviewed very quick. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you go to the purser to check your balance... it's usually alot lower than expected.

my wife and I didn't have to do anything to our luggage. We had a bad full of liquids from the airport that we pushed thru onto the ship with no issues at all. It's not worth the hassle to hide alcohol... We bought alot of things other than alcohol and were content with our tab.

My hair is fine also :( and the dryers are small like in hotels, but they really pack a punch!! I think they are strong! No you can't check your account on TV, but at the pursers desk, which is on 5 you can walk up a pretty staircase (where they take a lot of the professional pictures) or take the elevator- and that is where the excursions desk is also- you can ask anytime and they will print you out a sheet. We did our excurions online not through RCI- Read my Nachi Cocom thread in Cozemel- FANTASTIC!!!! All inclusive $49 pp all you can eat and drink, huge beautiful pool, hot tub, great restaurant and wonderful beach!!! I'll put a picture on the bottom ok and of the main lobby :)

For the kids they have Kids Ocean Club, although my kids are in college, I did hear rave reviews about it I met some moms who loved it and its for all age brackets , not just bunched in one room!! and saw kids with painted faces!! Really cute. They have Broadway type shows, for ours it was "The Piano Man" good singers doing Billy Joel, Barry Manilow and the like. Then they had a Country Show one night, Everynight is something different in the big theater "Broadway Melodies" Its gorgous in there!!! Comfy chairs, plus there are waiters too! Really done nice!! The other bars are a disco, different theme nights, 70's, 80's, 90's and thats alot of fun too! We didn't go to the Schooner Lounge much, they had Kareoke, too much cig. smoke for us and also a piano player everynight. You can bring your kids to everything, except The Quest, although I did see a lot of them there, even though they warn adults only, its not swearing or anything, but more adult theme. The 2 comedians they had in the big theater were really good, one had been on the tonight show. They do fun game shows, like "Love and Marriage" like the newlywed game- funny!!! They have a lot of pool games too! Make sure you tear off the back of the sea pass, its perferated too! it has 24/7 everything going on! Chris Armas the cruise director is really good, lots of energy and easy on the eye ;)

I would go to all the broadway shows, the disco at night, The Quest, The Drink Seminar for sure $9.95 per person, game shows! FUN!!! We only spent 20 min in the casino, $40 lost and we had our fill! Some people only did that! Were not gamblers thank goodness! Bingo is fun too! Big prizes!!! Nice shops also, with good prices!! Oh and drinks of the day, $4.25 and yummy!! All sweet ones! Great prices I thought, everyday its a different drink, and you get it anywhere on the boat anytime anybar!

I did save all my compasses- I will tray to scan them tonight and then post them ok!! But I'm on my laptop now, so I will have to go to the big computer with the scanner on it!! Oh I brought 3 cans of spray on sunscreen 45spf - I got SO much sun its unbelieveable- So I would get your kids the highest 60spf I have seen- they will fry! We are really light skinned and we tanned prior thank goodness, but we got burned one day if you can believe it, being on the water cooks you, plus the pools are salt water too, bring goggles for your kids :) We brought our own snorkel gear at sams club $40 each, they were incredible in the ports to have!!! Also for formal nights, I thought people were more laid back, I wore a nice pant suit both nights, my DH wore slacks and a blazer both nights, we had the 8:30 seating. Oh you definately want to do the midnight buffet!! All kinds of pastries, appetizers and fruits and ice sculptures, only one night so make sure you don't miss it ok! Its the 2nd formal night! Bring your camera and appetite!!!! Ok, I will post tonight with the compasses ok!!! Think of more questions if you want! :p Hope you like the pictures!!

When is the drink seminar? Do they just show you how to make the drinks or what actually goes on during this? I want to sign myself, hubby, and daughter up. But they are gonna want to know what I am getting them into.:D Thanks for the info..

They show you how to make the drinks and make them putting on a performance at the same time! It is loads of fun, and boy do you get smashed. I see kids at it but to me this is an adult event, why do kids need to know how to make an alcoholic drink??

The drink seminar was like the 3rd sea day, $9.95 kids are free if there not 18 I'm sure because they can't drink, the pool waiters were selling the tickets, but I'm sure you could get them from the pursers too! Just ask the pool waiters though, a couple of them are the entertainers! They dance, rap, show you how to make 4 yummy drinks and do a "Cocktail" type show, with the bottles flying around :D Plus they pull people from the audience and they get extra drinks! Well worth the $9.95 just for the 4 drinks you get! Lots of fun and energy, lasts about 2 hours, it was around 12:30 in the afternoon too!

Do they normally have the seminar around the pool, or another part of the ship? Thanks for all your answers!!:)

No it was at the "Shall We Dance" Bar, most people came straight from the pool, I did and just wore my suit with a cover-up, bonus the elderly gentlermen at our next table didn't drink, so we got his 4 drinks in additon! YUMMY! Bring your video camera too!

I know Casanova does it , but was Manalo still there doing the show with Casanova? Casanova has been around for ages working his way up from a bar waiter to a supervisor! Yes Casanova is his real name, last name, but real name! Last May my friends got Casanova to drag me up there to "help" with the choco martini, OMG I was already drunk so it was pretty funny. I am shy really but refuse to act like it, I sucked it up and got into the performing too.. LOL

I really can't understand why sneaking alcohol is such a huge issue on many of the threads. It is clearly stated in the terms that bringing your own alcohol is not allowed. I know the alcohol is expensive on board, but rules are rules.

After just being there last week, the drinks really aren't at all, the drink of the day is $4.25 all day everyday! Our bar bill was $140.00 for me and DH not bad at all for 7 days of drinking with tips included!! We also got a 5 bottle of wine package separately for $130 So I really think its no big deal now that I've experienced it. Whats funny is we got sent down for suspicious bags and we were innocent :p I never got to bring any, thank goodness I didn't!!!:)

Our first cruise ever my DH and I thought about smuggling (which is funny, cause we never drink in the cabin) But after we drank everytime we wanted, didn't always buy the drink of the day, we still only had a bar bill of 160.00! Come on for 2 people all week long is it really worth lugging any alcohol on board? The drinks on the ship are awesome and them your not running back to your room to do fill-ups. They really aren't that expensive. I know some don't have alot of money after they bought tickets and all, but my husband is shall we say "frugal" when it comes to his spending and even he thinks they are cheap!:p

Lori -

Was this a OC, GC, COZ itinerary? If so, I would love to see the compass sheets as well. Are you going to post or do you need email?

Your info is great!

Do any of you remember if the heated power jets were working on the Solarium pool? It was freezing last time without them! Plus - I love that added push into the pool! The cocktail seminar is a riot - but NO KIDS ALLOWED. I feel sorry for the "victims". At our seminar everyone waved and yelled "Good night" when they were done with their moment in the spotlight. :)
