Leave luggage at pier & return car??

I have read in several different postings that you can drop off your luggage at the ship and then return your car. What I was wondering is, if you are traveling solo, will they let you drop off luggage and come back after dropping car or do you have to stay and check in then?

 

Also is there parking near the pier(will be sailing on Pride of Aloha) so you can do this?
