Tipping Included on the bill at the end?

I was told that a tip is automatically added to your bill in the end of the trip. Is this correct? It comes out to about $10 per day per person in your party. You can always add to this to special people that have taken care of you throughout the cruise. Please advise me on this matter.

Yes they are automatially to your bill. $10.00 is right per day per person. We tip those that have treated us special directly to that person as the other tip goes in a general pool. Hope this helps.

What happens if you feel you did not receive good service and do not want to tip someone???

 

We went on the Ecstacy a few years back and had terrible service the first night in the dinning room. We did not get drinks until meal was over. They dropped a wine glass in my lap. It was a short 3 day cruise so we never used the dinning room the rest of the trip so we did not tip the dinning room staff.

 

At the time you could do it in envelopes they provided individually.

You can go to the purser's desk and take the tips off, if you want.

 

I feel much more comfortable with the standard tip than I did back in the day when we had to bring cash and divide it into envelopes. We had to hand them to them on the last night. It made me feel bad as I really could not afford to tip much more than the recommended amount, but I wanted to give them a huge tip.

 

And they were so friendly and wonderful up until tip time and then...wham... it was no longer profitable, so they turned it off...

Yes they are automatially to your bill. $10.00 is right per day per person. We tip those that have treated us special directly to that person as the other tip goes in a general pool. Hope this helps.

We make sure it goes to the steward, we give any extra directed to the room stewart, dinning staff, etc. Do not believe you can decide out of your $10.00 a day automatic charge, how much goes to who!

Know you can do this. Take it completely away know that is done but not recommended. Maybe you know something new. We pay the standard applied to our account as that does go into a pool of all that provided you a service on the cruise. If our stewart is doing a nice job, we leave that person extra in our cabin and tip the dining staff also. So what point are you trying to make?

Know you can do this. Take it completely away know that is done but not recommended. Maybe you know something new. Hope you are right in your advising and quotes. Those that are truly interested need to do a search of the boards, many threads on this subject with those who have been cruising for many years.

Even with pooled tips, if you give ANY of your team an extra tip, that goes directly to him... period. It is not divided between anyone else.

It is my understanding that, if you leave the auto-tip in place, then any additional cash tips received by the staff is theirs to keep. If, however, you remove or reduce the auto-tip, cash tips must be turned in to the pool.

 

If you remove/reduce the tips, the staffers' supervisors will call them in and ask them to explain why a passenger was miffed enough to remove the tips. If you have paid in cash, they must 'fess up at that time, or risk a black mark on their record.

 

So, it isn't really possible to stiff one or more staff members, while rewarding another. If you didn't like you cabin steward, but did like your dining room waiter, you might be tempted to remove the auto-tips and give cash in the dining room. If you do, the Maitre d' will ask the waiter to explain why you removed the autotips. He then has to cough up the dough, which will go into the pool. That means that the cabin steward will get his share.

 

If you have a serious problem with a particular individual, the way to handle that is to make a complaint to the appropriate supervisor.

There's no "about" about it. It's exactly $10, per day, per person, including children. And yes, it posts to your S&S account immediately, and like all other S&S charges is charged to your CC on checkout the last day.

 

You do not need to tip for children 2 and under.

I thought I was clear.......Like I said....what you said is true, according to what some have said here on cc.....

Tongue in cheek......just like all the conflicting stories about why people go overboard....

In other words.....some will believe and others won't. There really is no proven fact....so if you believe it good for you. But if others choose not to believe it good for them.....
