Olwyn Posted April 6, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2007 HI Again, Just to let everyone know, that on Princess ships, the balconys adjoin, which is great for a family cruise. In 2005, we had 4 balconies in a row, for the incredible price of $950pp, and it was grand! We opened the doors in the partitions, and shared breakfast together every morning outside. We discussed our plans for the day, and Kate (20 months) ran with her doll stoller, the length of the 4 rooms. While maintaining each couples' space, in the rooms, this was a great way for us to enjoy together time, away from the hustle and bustle of the main decks! Before bed, we would also sit out there, with a gin and tonic, or a cup of tea, and watch the stars, while Kate slept peacefully, and undisturbed inside. :D I wanted to book with RCCL this time, but no balconies adjoining, and really this was a big highlight on the cruise! Anyone know of any other lines that offer this? Happy Cruising. Olwyn
PattyW Posted April 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2007 A couple of years ago, we had the steward open the partition between two balcony cabins on the Grandeur. It's not something that you can do yourself (the key was shaped like a triangle) and once they were open, they were open. It is not like a cabin with a door in between that you can open or close. We had to use one of the chairs to brace the door open.
MechTeach Posted April 9, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2007 The barriers between balconies could be removed when we were on the Carnival Valor, but the purser said that they would only do it for a limited number of partitions per voyage.
Olwyn Posted April 10, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted April 10, 2007 You are right about the doors being open for the duration, once the steward has done so on day 1! We did use a chair to hold doors open for the entire voyage. We are booked on the Crown for next February though, and on that ship, the entire partition is removed! That will be much better. As a family, we like to keep the entire balcony open for the whole cruise. No need to break it up! Olwyn:)
whale-watcher Posted April 11, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Princess is our line of choice, and we always look for cabins that connect via the balcony for our family of 5. Not sure if RCI is as likely to open balcony partitions as princess; they do have more interconnecting cabins, however.
