We are going on Peter Deilman-Frederic Chopin River Cruise - Prague to Berling on April 28th. Wonder if any other cruise critic members are on this cruise? Or have been on this cruise with Peter Deilman? We would appreciate any information regarding this tour.

alandawn...we went in October ourselves and I have to warn you....you are in for a TREAT!!!!!! The colors were magnificent, the air slightly crisp....and it was wonderful to sit up on deck with a glass of wine and a blanket on a lounge chair watching the countryside pass by! Wish I was going with you!

mcintyre9454: To sit on deck with a glass of wine and watch the scenery sounds heavenly. We have never been to Germany or the Czech Republic and are really looking forward to it. I've had some trouble finding information on some of the smaller towns along the route. Did you do tours arranged through the Chopin, adventure out on your own or a combination of the two? Which towns are good for self-exploring? Were there any escorted tours you thought were particularly good or not so good?

Alandawn,

In all honesty....we just went with the flow and did all the ship sponsored tours...which IMO were GREAT! I don't know if our sailing was the norm, but I do believe ALL the passengers did the ship sponsored excursions (if memory serves me correctly....all the excursions included some free time for exploring). Altho, I do believe it would be easy to venture out on your own if you would like to. Wittenberg is a beautiful town that we enjoyed and very picturesque. Meissen had the exquisite Meissen Porcelain Factory where you could view the skill of the artisans at work. DRESDEN.....it is so incredibly difficult to believe that city was bombed basically flat during WWII when you see how they've reconstructed the architecture to look like it had never been damaged. And the excursion that takes you to the mountains of Saxon Switzerland....make sure you have ALOT of film in that camera! Also, I do believe it was the town of Melnik (in the Czech Republic)......if you walk UP the steep climb to the town...there is the cutest little "Vinotek" where many of us went to sample some wines! You are going to have a GREAT time!
