Dive knife and crusing

I've never had a problem bringing one in checked luggage, but after 1st dive, it gets confiscated when re boarding the ship. Then it becomes a hassle retreiving it from pursers desk. This cruise, I think I am going to leave it at home, but worry about getting tangled in fishing line. What do you do?

Most places that you dive from a cruise will not have entanglement hazards,

but what I do is just bring a pair of shears that I picked up at my local diive

shop for about $6.

The chances of getting tangled in fishing line in the Caribbean is small enough to be insignificant. I leave my knife at home and have never needed it for cutting in the Caribbean. I agree with wnctarheel, if you really think you need something for cutting, shears are the best choice, better than a knife anyway. You can purchase the same type of shears at your local EMS shop. Of course it will not include a sheath.

If the blade is less than 2 inches the cruise line will not take the dive knife and this is plenty to solve any (or at least most) problems that will arise. earl
