Sea Island Lady Posted August 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2004 If we have a 12:50 am flight out of Honolulu on a Saturday, how soon should we be at the airport? Anyone know how far a taxi drive it is from the Kahala Manadrin Oriental to the airport and how much fare would be?
Suebee Posted August 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2004 They still suggest arriving two hours before flights here. I do not know about Kahala Mandarin, but the average price from Waikiki to the airport is $20....so perhaps a bit more. Sue
Sea Island Lady Posted August 6, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 6, 2004 I checked with the hotel and they are about a 30 minute drive to the airport and about $35 in taxi fare. I also found a site that suggest 1 hour 20 minutes for Honolulu on Peak days. We will probably take your suggestion just in case.
Suebee Posted August 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2004 Sea Island Lady - I checked with the Department of Transportation (State of Hawaii) and they said that checkin time is determined by the airlines. When my husband flies, which is frequent enough, they always say 2 but you would be best served by checking anyway. Incidentally, the airport is really quite nice with a lovely garden and even a small museum. So there is enough to do for the hours between shopping, restaurants and the things I had mentioned. spleen93 Posted August 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2004 I would DEFINITELY try to get there at least 2 hours before. Lines can be long at times at Honolulu International ... best to not have to rush through security. Spleen
Sea Island Lady Posted August 6, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted August 6, 2004 Will do! My info came from Delta, but if the airport is interesting, there is no reason to delay the arrival. Glade to know about the airport, Sue.
SweetEmi Posted August 7, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 7, 2004 I say 2 hours...even here in our tiny Kona airport (unless going interisland and I would still probably make it 1.5 hours). I HATE to have to rush and be worried. Sometimes the searchs take soooo long. Last time I flew from Kona - first you check in and they weigh your luggage and put tags on them, then you take them to another building and put them on a conveyor belt and then stand in the hot sun waiting for the people inside the building to look at all your luggage and then come out and tell you it's okay to go to the gate. Honolulu is more organized than that...but it can still take a long time sometimes. BTW!! This will be the first time in maybe forever that I have flown WITHOUT worrying about smoking - where, when, time, all that hassle!! Emi
