zebramatie1 Posted April 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2007 My sister returned a few weeks ago from a Holland America Sailing. Our family has only cruised with Carnival before and now she has had a new experience. I have never heard of Carnival having airline employees checking baggage right from the Port. My sister got in early Sunday morning and had an evening flight out of FLL. She said she checked her bags curbside and they took the luggage right to the airport. She rented a car and didn't have to worry about her luggage until she returned home. Is this something new or is it something only with Holland America? We always travel in large groups and luggage is always our nightmare. Most of the time we don't leave until evening hours and carting luggage around is such a pain. We will be cruising on the Pride out of Long Beach in Feb with over 40 people and trying to arrange transportation from the Port to the airport with all of our luggage in tote. Most likely we will be on a red eye out of LAX and will do some more sightseeing. Luggage is always a hassle. Any info would be appreciated. jleq Posted April 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2007 Check with your airline. Some [and only a few] do "curbside checkin" at certain Florida ports. That checkin is done by the airline...not Carnival/HAL/others. Only your airline can tell you if it applies to you
zebramatie1 Posted April 15, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted April 15, 2007 Thanks for your reply. Now my question is, do they have curb side check in at the Long Beach Port?
jleq Posted April 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2007 Only an individual airline knows...
lindasuej Posted April 15, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2007 Certain airlines do this. In addition, 2 years ago when we were on Celebrity (at San Diego) we were flying American Airlines. At night when you put your luggage out they checked it right through to the airlines for you. (it cost (I think) an extra $20 but it was well worth it. Put it in the hall the last night of the cruise and didn't see it again until we reached home. It was fantastic. No hassel. Wish they would all do this. piratemom Posted April 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2007 OP, what airline did your sister fly on, and which port was this? Port everglades? Miami? Thanks!
Thatmom Posted April 15, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 15, 2007 We did this a few years ago when we did Disney. When we came off the ship you could send your luggage and get you boarding passes for Delta and America..Don't know if they still do this.. zebramatie1 Posted April 16, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted April 16, 2007 My sister cruised out of Fort Lauderdale. I will have to ask her which airline she used. There was also a nominal fee of $15-$20 per person. She said it was dollars well spent. I would definitely do this rather than cart and handle bags more than once on your return.
