Sunset Beach Montego Bay

I plan to go to Sunset Beach in May. Will be on the Conquest with my 10 year old grandson. I understand you have to leave your Sail & Sign card with the front desk while you are there. Makes me a little nervous. Has anyone had any problem with that? Any other comments about Sunset Beach? Thanks.

We went there 2 years ago from the Conquest and had no problem. We just gave them our S & S cards and paid our $20. We had a nice time even thought it was a cruddy day. When we left we retreived our S & S cards from the guard shack in front of the resort.

We did this in January 07 and I was a little concerned too. :eek: There were 3 couples and they asked for 3 cards to be left at the desk, any three. Left one of each couple's and no problems. They were very nice there. Would do it again! :D

Enjoy!

We were there June 2006 with our 8 year old son. It's a great place to bring kids. They have an awesome children's pool with a lazy river and cool slides. The beach was beautiful and we had use of the paddle boat and kayak. I admit it felt a little weird leaving our sign and sail cards but it was not a problem--I have no idea the point in it, but also did not ask! Don't worry, have a great time. You'll be glad you went.

Yes you do have to leave your sail and sign when you check in at the frount desk. (It is $40.00 a person to get in now) You get it back not at the frount desk but at the little guard shack by the frount gate on your way out. I misunderstood that and was 10 minutes late meeting my ride. It left us! Thankfuly we did get another taxi but I was not happy with the otter couple we shared a taxi with for leaving with out us. All that aside, Sunset Beach is wonderful, well worth the money. One of our best days. Great pools, lots of great food, no crowds lots to do. I wish we would could have stayed longer. You will love it. If you have kids of any age they will love it too.

This is not a problem. They take the card with your entrance fee (I think $40.00 per person) and they put it away in an inside office. (It was returned to us in a sealed envelope with our name on it.) Enjoy your visit. Get fresh towels at the beach. The amenities were clean, food & drinks-good. Plenty of pool and ocean!! Slides and lazy river for kids of all ages. Clean bathrooms and dressing rooms. Probably could use a fresh paint job-my only criticism. (When they're done painting send them to my house-it needs fresh paint too! :D ) When you are ready to leave, return your towels and get your receipt for them. Go to the front desk where they will collect the receipt, return your S&S card, and get your transportation back to the ship. :)

To make sure you return their towels!!:D :D :D

Probably to know who is visiting their property, and to be sure you leave! This is an all inclusive and you aren't registered as a hotel guest with a credit card on file. Your S&S may serve a similar purpose (without the credit card.) :)

We were just there in March. You take a Juta cab from outside the port building literally down the street to the resort. The cab will not be able to enter the gates and will drop you off right in front. There, you will see the guard shack. Tell the guard that you are a cruise passenger and you would like to come in with a day pass. The guard will escort you to the front desk. This is a lobby/front desk like any other hotel. The front desk will take one sea pass either per couple or for the group...depends on the size of your group. We just gave mine for a group of 4 adults and one child. We paid our 40 dollars per adult and 20 dollars for the child. If you are not given towel vouchers.. ask for them. They are laminated tickets to get fresh towels at the beach area. ( you will have to return your towel before leaving and get a ticket to return to the desk).

Once inside... you are free to use all the facilities. There are pools, lounge chairs at the beach, kayaks, snorkel equipment and food and drink. All food and drink are included!!! The drinks were great!!!! There is an outside grill that serves food.... this was not so great. You place your order at the counter and wait for it to cook. ( so, good thing is that it is all fresh cooked... just not very appealing to us) You can go to the restaurant... but you do need to be in more then a bathing suit. ( just like going to the dining room for lunch on the ship.. dry shorts and shirt.. no coverups or swim suits). They also have local venders selling their wares here..

When you want to leave, just return your towel to the towel guys... get a ticket to give back to the desk and let the desk know that you are ready to leave. The desk showed us to a driver that would take us back. The driver went to the guard shack to get my sail pass and handed it to me. It was in a sealed envelope with my name on the outside. ( they take it to make sure that you will be leaving the resort and going back to your ship)

Again, a short ride back to the port building and you are back at your ship. Just leave extra time to get through the security at the port building .. they have X-ray and guards and the line was quite long. ( give yourself at least 20 minutes to get through).

Have a great time!!!!!

Ok my first post I hope I do this right.

This place looks amazing. Dh and I have been looking thru the internet trying to find something fun to do with the kids in Jamaica and coming up empty or broke. LOL

This looks perfect and it include the food too for that price? We have 2 adults and 4 kids (12, 9, 7 & 6) they will be $20 and we will be $40 right?

This is our first cruise and I'm totally lost. I guess we just find a taxi at the pier and ask them to take us to the Sunset Beach resort or is it close enough to walk?

Thanks for all the reviews.

~~~Poohbears, from what I've read on this board, it's a $3 cab ride to Sunset Bay Beach from the pier. I think that's per person. It is a 5 minute cab ride.
I will be going there next week. I will let you know how our day went. After everything I read about Sunset Bay Resort, I don't think there will be any problems with my SeaPass.
Have fun, I'll check back in and see how it went. There will be one more ship tendered on the day we are there. Carnival I think. They tender an hour earlier, think that will cut down our chances of getting into SB.
I really don't think I want to do Rose Hall, so I hope we can do SB since it's so close.
Poobears... yes you have the prices correct... a great bargain!!!! The kids can use the water sport equipment like snorkle gear and kayaks. They have fruit punch and soda for the kids ( and anything your heart desires for the adults!!!!!)
I really dont think you will have a problem with another ship in port that day... we were there with another ship. I think Sunset beach is something you really have to know about. The ship will not tell you anything about it... infact, they have a similar excursion to a private resort that is around 80 dollars per person for basically the same thing. If you get there and it is by chance full... you have not spent that much money to get there... and you can turn around and go to another beach or have a second option ready. But I really dont think it will be a problem. The biggest problem with 2 ships in port is that there are more people trying to get through security in the port building. This is Jamaican port authority security and everyone must go through it... bags are screened as well. Get back to the port at least 20 minutes prior to the time you are given to give yourself time to get through. Have a great time!!!!!
Can somone please tell exactly which taxi I should take off the cruise ship? I'm a little concerned about security in Jamaica so exact instructions would be nice. I understand that going from the Sunset Beach is safe as they call in the taxi, but how do I know that the taxi going there is legit.
Thanks a bunch!
We went to Sunset Beach during our Jamaica stop. We enjoyed it very much. The people at the front desk were not overly friendly but the facility was clean, food was okay (we ate at the buffet not the grill & I heard the grill food was not good) The fish was tasty & the chicken was good. Husband drank lots of Red Stripe & I drank lots of rum punch. we really liked was the security, no outside vendors/peddlers allowed. The beach was pretty & we found some chairs away from crowds (although it never felt too crowded) so it was very relaxing. If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them.
We would definately do Sunset Beach again.
